screw this
Screw this. Nationals Select Stephen Strasburg, RHP, San Diego State.
Mariners are on the board.

Mariners
The Mariners select Dustin Ackley, cf, North Carolina.
I think I meant
Zach Wheeler is from East Paulding HS in Georgia, not Texas.
Taking a Leake
The Cincinnati Reds are delighted to announce the selection of Mike Leake, RHP, Arizona State.
I think he would have wanted Gibson here, if it's any consolation

ok.
Ok, Nats pick Chad Jenkins, RHP, Kennesaw State.
This pisses me off. Anyone want to take over the Nats who was active in the MOD?
Why
Some committs to something and bails I would cut them from my group…
Not sure why people on the internet should be held to a different standard.
Rockies take
Tanner Scheppers, RHP, St. Paul Saints
Royals select
LHP Rex Brothers, Lipscomb University

A's proudly select!
Donavan Tate hs of Georgia
http://caincecum.blogspot.com/
take it ez
their supposedly linked to him as well
http://caincecum.blogspot.com/
I wouldn't say 100%
but they’ve been all over him the last week, maybe two.

Rangers pick Chad James, LHP, Yukon HS, Oklahoma

Agh.
When he didn’t go top 10 I began to hope he’d fall till our next pick at 27.

according to BA
he should be able to throw for the drafting team before Aug 15
TJ v. Stress Fracture
I’m no doctor, but a broken bone sounds better than a torn UCL.
Could be barometer for things to come injury wise for him, though.
Well
Breaking his arm hasn’t seemed to hurt Cole Hamels that much ….
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
by WayneCampbell08 on Jun 7, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions
thats not terrible
but there’s no way he’s top 20 picks now… probably late 1st or supplemental maybe
Stress fracture is no big deal
What it COULD signal… overwork or fragility is a big deal.
DBacks select LHP Matt Purke HS TX
sorry laptop lost connection
Nats are doomed then ;)
White Sox here as well by the way, I missed the roll call.
+1
I love this pick for Florida. If James falls to them, then it becomes a toss up. But, Borchering is one of the best talents in the draft.
that's because
it’s all groupthink. Especially this year, nobody’s mock is going to be anywhere close. Law’s looks the best simply because it doesn’t look like everyone else’s.
Cardinals select
Mike Minor, LHP, Vanderbilt
Solid Pick
He’ll be a big leaguer and probably a #3-4 starter. I’m happy. I was going to take Purke.
Blue Jays select Kyle Gibson, RHP, Missouri
Let’s hope the stress fracture is not too severe…
maybe
i think he might drop a little further in the actual draft now.
ok mr sarcasm
this was right after everyone was saying it was a good pick, i thought it was unrealistic.
Arnett scares me
No history of success; insane workload… he’s a late first, more supplemental to me
people like drafting who they would like to draft, not who their team would draft. it defeats the whole purpose of this mock, but whatever
by thegoldengreek33 on Jun 6, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Id really like to see
some more direction from John on this front in the future. Define what the purpose of the mock is. To do what your team thinks it should do, or just draft who you think is BPA, considering signability/team needs (with whatever weight you want to put on it).
+1
Seeing how it could go with different draft philosophies running the show is one of this mock’s biggest attractions for me.

The Jays drafted McGowan knowing that he was a huge injury risk

Yeah
The Jays drafted McGowan knowing that their was a slight tear (I believe in his elbow) that would likely need surgery in the future (and he later had TJ). Last year JP selected Eric Thames despite his quad injury that dropped his stock like a rock. I think this pick is OK from a feasibility standpoint as the Jays would love Gibson’s scouting report and statistical profile if healthy and as a team with extra picks this year they can afford to take some risks. I think 20 is a good spot to take a gamble on what I’m sure they view as a top 10 player in the draft if healthy.
Twins select
SS Jiovanni Mier

Really?
Had me fooled. Thought you were running them all.
by ToddyBaseball on Jun 6, 2009 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions
kinda surprised
at some of the names still on the board – but this is prob how Tues. will go as well
With the 26th Pick of the 2009 MLB Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers select
Andrew Oliver, LHP, Oklahoma State
Oliver?
So you were excited that I took Minor so you didn’t have to and instead took Oliver????
Mariners 27
The Mariners select Drew Storen, RHP (Starting), Stanford
I like the move...
let’s just hope he doesn’t end up back in the bullpen with Fields, Aumont and Morrow
Storen
He will be given every opportunity to start…and will do so until he shows us a reason to move him into a relief role.
by AndrewZStebbins on Jun 6, 2009 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Last two picks
Love them both… Davidson will hit, and Oliver’s FB/Change combo is the best in college
Red Sox select Max Stassi, C, California HS
by thegoldengreek33 on Jun 6, 2009 1:43 PM EDT reply actions
Seems very possible
Given that Stassi apparently wants a boatload of money to sign.
it's tough with tate on the board, but i'll roleplay

which makes it tough to Roleplay

that's right. because i commented on how farfetched that was.

The A's...
have been at every one of Tate’s games for a week. Their history makes it hard to imagine, but the resources they’re expending makes it a pretty distinct possibility.

Braves -- might be away from my computer
I am gonna be in the car for about 45 mins. If I am away from my computer for the next pick at 87, someone please pick for me, though based on the current pace I will easily be back in time.
yankees
ok, i will pick for the Yankees They can’t believe their luck and pick Matt Hobgood, RHP, California HS
The rockies were drooling here for #32
This and Borchering are great
Hahah
So true. Considered him and another Cal. prep pitcher.

Rockies take OF Tim Wheeler Sacramento State
realistic and who I wanted.
+1
I want the A’s to take him at 13… especially over Tate if that’s their other positional candidate.
by ToddyBaseball on Jun 6, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions
Yes
I had him one spot below Arnett on my draft board.
Seems like a guy the real Sox would love
They love athletic players out of the college ranks. They’d probably be thrilled to grab this guy.
Just wanted to say
One round in, great job so far John. You’ve kept us moving along very nicely. Sorry about the guys who didn’t show, but looks like the folks who did show up are having a great time.
