Is he considered a top tier prospect
or do we wait until high A or AA to make that judgment?

I like him
I think he deserves to be in the Matt Moore/Jordan Lyles conversation. I may have him rated higher than both.

I don't put Knapp in with Moore or Lyles just yet...
Granted, he’s got size, and power, but from what I knew at the start of the year, he didn’t have anything else. I feel that Moore and Lyles are more complete than Knapp to this point.
Again, that opinion is based off of what is old news (much like pre-season reports of Lyles velocity being high 80s), so if anyone has any more recent description of Knapp’s secondary stuff or other news that would justify him being ranked with Lyles and Moore, then please post it!
I’ll go off and look around myself, and will post anything I find…

jp howel got a save
i remember 5 years or so ago when he was good prospect with Kansas City. Now he is looking more and more like Tampas Closer for the next while.

Tennessee beat Huntsville 7-2.
Carrillo: 2 ip, 4 K’s. giving him some burn, in 21 ip since he returned to AA, only given up 1 r on a solo shot, on 11 h, 9 bb, while getting 20 K’s.
Castillo: 2/4, 1 r, 1 2b, 2 rbi. has had some bad luck this year, but you gotta produce.
Adduci: 2/3, r, rbi, bb. red hot of late, the kid just doesn’t have power. going to the asg tho.

hey
i was thinking about it the other day, for no apparent reason, but what would you say is the top 5-8 for the Tigers system right now? Perry and Jacobson seem likely to be in there. Turner and Oliver seem likely if they sign. Haven’t been following enough to know about Avila’s defense this year, but his bat makes it seem like he’d be in the top 8. Strieby? Wells? Crosby? Crosby seems like he deserves to be in a top 5 spot.
was scanning the statistics, and seems like the system has been better than i thought, but i don’t follow it all that closely.

Scott Sizemore
- on BA’s list last year and has hit .308/.396/.536 across AA/AAA this year, which is pretty dang spiffy for a 2B.

Brett Cecil pitched out of the pen today for the Jays in the ninth inning instead of being the scheduled starter
I was at the game and almost had a heart attack over the stupidity of this move. I have not heard anything about switching him to a reliever yet and it is too early to start reducing his innings this year. I know he closed in college, but this makes little sense while he still has potential as a starter. Does anyone know why he came out in relief today instead of starting.

i saw him pitch a couple times as a starter
he had a herky jerkey delivery and hid the ball well. lots of deception. was around 90-92mph, since he was a college closer i could see him put back in that role. his fastball suddenly with deception could be 94-95mph

Cecil will be the Jay closer of the future
Said it last year after I attended his first AAA start. Do not like him as a starter.

perfect game (7 innings)
I feel someone should mention this—even if it was only 7 innings—Brandon Hynick pitched a perfect game in Colorado Springs—of all places. I realize he is not a top prospect, but still quite the feat.
On a related note, he has been pretty decent this year—especially in league and park context. I wonder if he might become a useful major leaguer—even if he doesn’t have the best stuff.

Arodys Vizcaino
7 k’s in 4 innings for Staten Island. In 12 1/3 innings so far: 21 k’s vs. 5 walks, 2.19 ERA, 2.20 GO/AO ratio. Definitely a small sample size, but he’s looking like a stud so far.
