Sean Rodriguez this year (fantasy keeper question)
So what do you guys think. A lot has been made of his MLB numbers and rightly so, but do the LAA plan on running Izturis and Aybar out there every night? This guy (and Wood) need to be in the lineup every day, is my opinion, and with Figgins and Morales, could actually prove to be a very good infield.
I guess my questions i regarding this year and as a fantasy league keeper, is S-Rod worth stashing away right now. At least worth it over Mazzaro or Alcides Escobar? I also have Mark Teahen actually playing right now but would consider dropping him since he isnt a long term plan kind of guy.
Can he help me this year (or next) or are we looking at the Brandon Wood scenario of the last 2+ years?

I learned
I learned a few years back that you are wasting your time if you try to figure out what the Angels are going to do with thier young players for fantasy purposes

Mike Scioscia
has zero skill in talent evaluation. He has “his guys”, and everybody else is screwed. You could put a 27-year-old Mike Piazza on the Angels and he’d split time with Jeff Mathis.
Obviously, Rodriguez isn’t one of Scioscia’s “guys”. React accordingly.

+1 on Mike Scioscia's inability to give certain guys a chance.

Buyer Beware
Sean’s #’s in both Rancho and Salt Lake are much more a factor of hitter-friendly environments than natural ability on his part. Read his line in Arkansas in 2007 if you want an indicator of what to really expect… moderate offensive ability paired with an innate ability to swing and miss a LOT.

+1
Although when I watched him play a couple times this year, he did appear confident at the plate, and his home run was an extremely well hit ball. I’d take him over Aybar but under Izturis if I were the Angels.

Okay
I here this all the time but has anybody noticed that Izturis is a good ballplayer at SS or 2b and Rodriguez is 0 for last 11. Say what you want about Mike Scocia but, he isnt running a tryout camp over there. As soon as Wood or Rodriguez show they are clearly better than who they are plkaying – Id bet they’d get a starting spot.
It’s a shitty spot for a young player stuck at AAA or when he gets called up and doesnt play but, I can see the merits from the Angels point of view.
Aybar is 4th in range and 2nd in fielding percentage at SS as well. He’s a Gold Glove cantidate out there- rock solid.

ZOMG, 0 for 11? That's, like, three whole games!
1… um… 54th of an entire season!
Also, you earn a FAIL for mentioning range factor and fielding percentage as though they mean something.

Whatever dude
I mention the 0-11 not because it means Rodriguez cant play- just that the Angels are in a pennant race and trying to win something. Every game counts.
Range is getting to balls and pct is fielding them cleanly- not sure what else is there. Do you have a better stat that says Aybar isnt a real good SS wise-ass?
