Which young CF prospect would you rather have in your organization?
1. Jared Mitchell- 1st round pick 2009 by the White sox. He has speed for days, looks to be a top of the order type hitter. Pretty good outfielder, can play the CF or corner spots.
2. Aaron Hicks- A little bit younger than Mitchell. He may have more "tools" better arm and probably more projection as a hitter, but not quite the speed of a Mitchell.
Which player do you build around if you can pick 1.
Thanks!

Hicks, has proven he can hit with a wooden bat
plus he’s a switch hitter and Mitchell has bad baserunning instincts.

Hicks
And it really isn’t that close. Mitchell is a bit too raw at this point for a college player to make me think he has the ceiling of Hicks.

Hicks
has as much talent as any player in the minors

Mitchell
Only because he has “speed for days.” What an awesome expression.

Ahh yes
But so does Joey Gathright. By the way, I’m not even sure why this is a question. I do think Mitchell has upside, but not nearly as much with the bat. Would have been a better question if it was Everett Williams v Hicks- While Hicks would still win, Williams has the all-around upside to at least rival him if fulfilled…And yes Valley, I know you’re kidding…

Hicks
younger, and despite that, more polished.

I'd also go with Hicks but
I must say that I don’t think the gap is as much as people seem to be saying. From scouting reports, they are roughly equal in terms of speed and power potential, with the primary difference being that Hicks is already polished in terms of plate control, while Mitchell has more work ahead of him. Much depends on how Mitchell does in professional ball, and how Hicks improves as he faces stronger competition, but I think both of them could be well-above average players, though I agree with the consensus that Hicks’ upside is a little higher and he is further along at a younger age

Going out on a ledge?
“Much depends on how Mitchell does in professional ball, and how Hicks improves as he faces stronger competition”
So for you, it basically comes down to which one of them plays better?
Intriguing.

Hard to say
This is really, really close. I think people are dramatically overestimating the difference (if there is one) in strike zone judgment . . .Mitchell has had 3 years of seeing much more complete pitchers than Hicks has seen. If Hicks were playing at a higher level of the minors I might be inclined to say that he has a clear advantage, but rookie ball and XST pitchers are guys who are pretty raw themselves. Their individual upsides might outweigh the average SEC arm, but they do not have comparable polish on their repertoires and command. Mitchell’s plate discipline is quite impressive already IMO, it’s obvious from watching him.
Naturally, Hicks is much more advanced relative to age . . .this shouldn’t surprise anybody as Mitchell has always dedicated plenty of time to football as well. But that doesn’t mean that Mitchell lacks a comparable ceiling.

Hicks Easily
He is already a top prospect and the Twins will have a great OF combo with him & Revere plus if he struggles as an OF he can convert to pitcher and take his 97 MPH Fastball up to Minnesota

Hicks , no doubt about it.
I’ve heard his name more. He’s supposed to be good and stuff. Other things that contain no valid reasoning.
