Cincinnati Reds minor league CF Chris Heisey is having an outstanding year so far in AA. What is his deal? What kind of upside does he have & where does he fit in Cincinnati's future plans?
His stats on the season are otherworldly:

Age
Age could be a factor with Heisey. He is 24 in AA, from my understanding that is a little bit old. However, putting age aside, his numbers in previous years aren’t “otherworldly”. He appears to be a toolsy guy that probably wouldn’t hit for much power at the big league level. His speed is decent and his K/BB ratios are also pretty nice. To me, he seems like he can be a serviceable 4th Outfielder or a lower end 3rd on some teams.
As for the Reds, he may have a shot as a 3rd OF because other than Bruce, it doesn’t look to proomising. But at 24, he may not get the shot.
Heisey
Heisey made some adjustments to his swing this past offseason and its resulted in better contact rates and more power. While he is 24, he isn’t exactly ‘old’ for AA, but he isn’t young either. He should be getting a promotion to AAA soon if the Reds have any idea how to run a farm system, in which case he would be 24 in AAA and not old at all for the level.
He plays at least league average center field defense, but some would argue its above average. He is a smart base runner with some good wheels and has more gap to gap power. I think he could be a major league center fielder for a lot of teams, I just don’t think he will get that shot with the Reds as they have Drew Stubbs ahead of him (and with the new defense approach, Stubbs is going to get a shot over just about anyone even if his bat doesn’t translate as well) and are also locked into Willy Taveras (sigh) for another year past this one.
