6/19 MILB Thread
Here are some starting pitchers to track throughout the day and night
Scott Olsen, Mike Bowden, Wade Davis, David Hernandez, James McDonald, David Purcey, Cole Rohrbaugh, Casey Crosby, Simon Castro, Brett Lorin, Jack McGeary, Brett Marshall, Joe Wieland, and Graham Hicks (New York Penn League opens today).
A lot of teams have yet to list starters (more than usual by this time of day) and the Florida State League is off this weekend due to its AS game.

Quinton Miller
I believe he might be starting today, since MiLB.com finally has him in their database.
Any ideas?

Didn't want to start a separate thread...
Anyone know where I can find a site listing where the 2009 draft picks who have signed will be starting their pro careers? Thank you.

baseball america’s draft database normally does a pretty good job with this. it is normally a little behind but it’s a fairly good indicator if you don’t want to search all over the web.

Christian Friedrich
He hasn’t pitched in 9 days or so. Any word on him? Is he hurt?

If you missed the last thread...
Michael Main is out with mononucleosis.
I think JD’s doing this to spite all the "when we gon’ get sum pitchin’ in here" idiots.

Re: Snyder
Does anyone think if Huff gets traded in the next couple of months, Snyder could get the call for the Orioles? Or is the plan for him to stay in the minors this year and compete for the job next year out of spring training?

Snyder
They would probably use Wigginton at first if they trade Huff.

Kyle Drabek
8 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 5 K. It’s been pointed out that his start schedule has been aligned with the Phillies’ 5th starter spot.

I know Carrasco hasnt had a great season in AAA, but i wonder if they would really promote Drabek over Carrasco.

Drabek has frontline stuff while Carrasco is a #3
Phillies are seeing in Drabek or what Hamels was in the minors before he was called up.

he ain't hamels.
and carrasco is still a very good prospect. he’ll surprise a lot of people when he gets called up later this season.

maybe
Drabek may be a nice #2 behind Hamels in a couple years, but rushing him to the majors this season would be a huge mistake, in my opinion anyway. By this time next month he will have doubled his career number of professional innings this season alone, and will have made all of 8 or 9 starts in AA. Given his injury history, the Phillies have a lot more to lose by throwing him into the fire with that little preparation and that amount of workload.
I think they should let him settle in at AA for the rest of the season, and monitor his innings closely there. Maybe give him some AAA starts at the end of the year. But then again, I’m not getting paid for my opinion, so it obviously isn’t worth much.

Posey
2-4, Double, HR
Thomas Neal: 1-3, BB

Posey closing in on a 1.000 OPS btw
his plate discipline was expected but I don’t think too many predicted that he would hit for the type of power that he has

Cubs
Sam Fuld (remember how he was “hot” 2 off-seasons back): 2/4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB. Has gotten hot to carry his line to .276/.348/.395. Still a possible depth OF.
Tony Thomas: 2/5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, CS, PO, E. The K/BB collapse combined with inconsistent defense makes it eh, IMO. Almost funny how his last month or so went. .282/.356/.458. 61/24 K/BB. 7/16 SB, 11 E.
Tyler Colvin: 1/2, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K. Considering everything (rehabbing, concussion), his hot start back at Tennessee gives me some hope. .327/.358/.673 (49 AB’s). Ejected for arguing a check swing.
Darwin Barney: 2/4, 2 R, 1 K. .333/.385/.416. 15 E.
Chris Huseby: 1 IP, 3 K’s, 6th save. Overslot tall righty from 2006, he had a horrid 2008 where he lost all control, but has bounced back this year out of the pen in Peoria. 1-4, 2.33 ERA, 6 Sv, 27 ip, 24 h, 2 bb, 3 HR, 39 K. Would still like to see them try him in the rotation again at some point. Only 21.
Josh Harrison: 0/4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB. .329/.373/.472. Cooling off a bit, which was bound to happen.
Josh Vitters: 1/5, 2 R, E (10th). .318/.356/.537. He’s only a few months older than Eric Hosmer, for an age comparison (as Hosmer was the DH against Peoria today, going 2/5, R, K).
Kyler Burke: 3/5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 4 RBI. .293/.369/.493. Power dipped in May, but his most consistent year so far. Considering tools and age (21), worth keeping one eye on to see if he can maintain it. BB rate is fine and has been steady with years past, K rate has declined from year’s past and looks okay enough to me if he can maintain it (obviously, hope it gets better).

jeff bianchi: 3-5, 3 doubles (AA debut!)
jordan parraz: 2-4, 2 home runs, walk ….. get this man in AAA. .355/.451/.547, 28/23 BB/K.

Arodys Vizcaino
as starter for Staten Island Yankees (SS-A) last night:
4.1IP 5H 4R 1ER 1BB 7K’s
these unearned runs due to error-stricken 3rd inning are distracting. 7K’s and 1BB are nice though
