Aaron Hicks to Beloit
http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/neal/2009/06/18/twins-pittsburgh-no-mauer-buscher-grabs-a-bat/
Just got word that Aaron Hicks, the Twins’ first round pick from last year’s draft, is headed to Class A Beloit.
About time the Twins promoted Hicks, I wonder what took them so long. I know the Twins are starting to take it slow with some of their prospects but after what he did in the GCL he should have opened the season in Beloit.

They don't officially keep score but ...
The twins said he hit .338 while learning all 3 outfield positions.

Link??
I’m just curious where you read that, it would be interesting to see if there was any more info offered.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

I don't really like the Move
Once they committed to holding him back to this point, I think Hicks Deserved to get some ABs in the Appy League
Plus Beloit is by far and away the Twins most dreadful minor league affiliate right now.

i like it
Appy ball is what twins use more for college players they just drafted it seems.
Also Revere had success in beloit and didnt go to appy. Sure its not the best hitters league and this isn’t their best team, but he should be in the MWL.
He needs a challenge, no need to baby him.

Hicks
I really think this kid is going to be something special, and it really did irk me when the Cardinals went with the polished College slugger instead of the young Mr. Hicks.
I really do think he is at minimum a Vernon Wells clone.

he's got a lot more speed than Vernon though...
and his power might even develop into being greater as well.
I don’t mind the comp avg and HR wise, but Vernon’s highest SB total in a season is 17, while I look at Hicks as being a 30+ SB guy annually.

yeah I’d say he’s more Alexis Rios than Vernon Wells, IMO.

But neither Rios nor Wells walk
Of course he’s very far away, but it seems that he has a good chance of ending up somewhere between Andrew McCutchen and Grady Sizemore, depending on how much power he develops

I think your expectations are too low
Surely he can at least cure the common cold and release a chart-topping country/rap fusion CD on top of that…

It's just one of those things, one of those things

You’re just ticked because the A’s went with Jemile Weeks….
Look Weeks is a Very Good solid prospect, and I think Dustey Coleman and Weeks will be the best middle- infield the A’s have EVER had in 3-4 years.

Why would someone be mad if their team took Weeks over Hicks?
Weeks is (so far) looking like he could reach the major leagues next year, with a good bat at a tough position. Hicks has a great ceiling, but he’s an outfielder in A-ball. I’d take Weeks over Hicks right now and be happy about it.

I was going to say this too
not 100% on it, though. Going into 09 I definitely had Hicks rated much higher…. just not sure why I did that anymore. I can see the case for either, though I like Weeks slightly more (at least at the moment). I will say this: I cant see someone being upset his team chose one over the other.
This all begs the question, though: where will Jemile Weeks rank on top 100 lists next season? Aaron Hicks was #39 on BP and BA this year! Have I just lost perspective? I cant imagine Hicks’ stock has dropped… yet I would have a hard time arguing Weeks is a top 40 prospect based on a couple weeks worth of performance. Then again, Hicks is basically just tools and a short season performance – and that got him to #39…

For me...
if you’re going to rank a short-season player in the top 50 at all, he better be a world-beater. I can’t say that I think Weeks should be a top-40 prospect. I don’t think Hicks should have been either. Dreaming on a guy is fun, but there isn’t much that separates Hicks from any other toolsy 1st round pick at this point. Obviously the Twins agree, or it wouldn’t have taken them until now to put him in A-ball when guys like Jaff Decker are already knocking on A+’s door.

That's an interesting point about pre-2009
I think the reason why we (because I did also) rated Hicks so much higher was because we hoped that he might develop more power. There are a number of similarities between Hicks and Weeks – they both have excellent plate control, they’re both very fast, they both play important defensive positions. That Hicks is doing this while 4 years younger (granted at a lower level) is impressive, but the real hope with Hicks was that he might add 20 or even 30 HR power to his excellent walk and strikeout and steal data. But Weeks seems to have stolen his thunder on that score.
I’m still wary of Weeks’ homer data – I think that Hicks is one of the best prospects in the game, and it wouldn’t shock me if by the time the year is over, he might move higher than his #40 place into the 20s. Weeks really could end up anywhere – if he continues to hit with this much power, with this plate control and this speed, then he could be one of the best, if not the best, 2B prospects in the game. But there’s a long way to go before he does that

Of course I meant his upside
But I suspect you knew that
