As is often the case, there may be a few others as MILB adds names to the scoreboard pages but these are the bulk of them.

Hudson...

started the year by tearing up A-ball, got promoted to A+, and now has done well enough to reach AA before the all-star break. I know he’s got a plus fastball and slider, and keeps the ball on the ground well. How are his off-speed pitches coming along? Should he be a guy getting more attention?

by PissedMick on Jun 18, 2009 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions

they're coming along.

but AA i think will tell us whether he should be getting more attention.

Brad holt?

hasnt pitched in 2 weeks whats up with that….. jk i really just wanted to post about him. Does anybody know how is secondary stuff is coming along this season?

by jarjets89 on Jun 18, 2009 4:44 PM EDT reply actions

Holt is out with a rolled ankle

I, too, would like to see a scouting update on him. He’s cut his BB/9 almost in half this year. I’d like to think that’s an indicator that his secondary stuff is coming along nicely.

Tyler Colvin

Two HRs in the first game of the Tennessee double header today. He’s up to .319/.353/.617 in 47 ABs in AA. I have no idea if it’s sustainable, but it’s nice to see him producing after Tommy John Surgery in the offseason and a horrific concussion not too long ago.

It looks alright

obviously, small sample size, but if we assume that the development in discipline is a progression from last year, I think the numbers look okay in terms of whether or not I think he can maintain something close to this. I mean, the chances of that .500 slugging being real is probably slim, but I think, in his third AA go around, he could probably put up about a .800+ OPS there. Considering his “status”, I expect, if he can maintain this for a little bit, that the Cubs may try him at Iowa later in the year.

Dan McDaniel

Dan McDaniel – 6ip, 5 h, 1 r, 1 bb, 3 K’s. Very solid outing considering how much he had struggled of late.

Jovan Rosa’s 0/3 so far, but prior to today, he had gotten a bit hotter. I’m still hopeful that this is just one bad, bad, slow, slow start. The K/BB still sucks, though.

Josh Vitters May vs. Josh Vitters June

The May Vitters: .386/.417/.754
The June Vitters: .200/.258/.273

I’m also curious if anyone has any thoughts on Ryan Flaherty. Entering today, he was a .244/.318/.433 guy. Certainly not the bat some imagined. That said, the K/BB is solid and I haven’t heard many bad reports. Is there anything to be really worried over? I wasn’t as high as some Cubs fans were on Flaherty (one of the common arguments I saw on some Cubs boards was that Flaherty was a 2nd round pick so he had to be good), and certainly, the MWL can make grown men cry at times, but I was expecting a bit better than this. That said, I’m not that worried. I didn’t expect any of the ridiculous Chase Utley comparisons, but thought that a positive scenario would be that Flaherty would be a similar offensive player to Mark DeRosa, but left handed. To be honest, I didn’t expect to feel this way last year, but I think I’m more excited about Junior Lake than Ryan Flaherty, despite Lake’s horrid K/BB.

btw, on Vitters

since I got called out on another blog, I wanted to point out that I was pointing out his numbers for pointing out’s sake. That is, I’ve seen the BABIP, LD rates and what not. Just pointing it out due to the discussion on Vitters a few weeks back.

I think it's regular rest

I think Weeks has been sitting every 5th game since he came back from the hip injury.

Omar Poveda

Is he hurt? Has this been covered and I missed it?

Hasnt pitched since June 7th…

by alskor on Jun 18, 2009 10:41 PM EDT reply actions

yes

he landed on the disabled list after his first start back in AA after a pretty decent spot start in AAA with a hand injury. No word yet on the extent of the injury.

Non-throwing hand injury

I think JD’s doing this to spite all the "when we gon’ get sum pitchin’ in here" idiots.

If he has had a case of mono for a little while

it would go a long way in explaining his “Meh” Cal league numbers

Doubtful

I don’t think Mono would allow him to pitch much at all, even badly.

best start so far.

Chris Carter went deep again.
  1. on the season. Now .303/.403/.513 with those 10 jacks and a 65/40 K/BB thru 260 ABs. This guy is definitely silencing his doubters so far. Having a fantastic season.

Solace: Law says he's a fourth OFer
PaulThomas: I think Keith Law is only a fourth analyst

Nice to see the power showing up

Carter’s raw power has never been in question so there wasn’t much reason for concern but it’s nice to see those homeruns flying out.

The k-rate is starting to creep back up and he is sporting a pretty high babip so I would expect the avg. to slide a bit. I think Carter is showing the ability to adjust to higher level pitching. I think he could put up a .260/.360/.500 line which would play just fine at DH and even better if he can find a position.

by OkayJay81 on Jun 19, 2009 2:45 AM EDT up reply actions

absolutely

I think only Stanton can match up with Carter in terms of raw power…

Storen did make his debut

1 IP, 1 R, 2 H (1 HR), 0 BB, 1 K

Jeremy Hefner was bumped from A+ to AAA

Made his debut with Portland last night. 5.1 IP, 2 R, 7 H, 2 BB, 5 K

by jibs on Jun 19, 2009 10:15 AM EDT reply actions

Coool, I’ve always Liked Hefner, I’m surprised he isn’t in AA right now though.
