Prospect Smackdown: Vin Mazzaro vs Sean West
Results seemed relatively split in my poll on the topic: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2009/6/15/910710/dynasty-league-vin-mazzaro-vs-sean
Some hit and run love
For Jenrry Mejia. Considering he’s kind of come out of nowhere to be a nineteen year-old starter in Double-A.
Pitching Prospect Smackdown Ideas
Jhoulys Chacin vs. Hector Rondon
Jason Knapp vs. Martin Perez
Season Mid-point prospect grade updates
Player stock rising, stock failing, “did not include them in grades originally, but wish I did”
or
Overall franchise farm system grades post-draft (after the August signing period completes). Did any franchises really improve their ranking / rating?
I was going to suggest this
To basically revisit the preseason Top 20 Prospects lists for each team. Noting who appears to be doing better than expected and who seems to be struggling after moving up a level or whatever.
Mustard and I just gave you an idea for 30 articles, that’s another month you won’t have to worry about coming up with ideas for.
Stock Up? Stock Down?
Hey, that’s my bit baybee!

Couple ideas
This may be a little more work then you want to do, but how about another go with sleeper prospects for each team for the second half.
Actually, John, I would love to see a list of players you enjoy watching. I’m sure you have a handful of players you just like to watch play, I think we all do, and I would love to see your list.
I'd like to see that list of players you just like watching play also.

Prospect Smackdown
Jemile Weeks vs Brett Wallace
I know they are completely different types of players but there were a few questions asked when the A’s took Weeks over Wallace in last years draft. Wallace got off to a hot start last year but Weeks is on a tear now. I’d be interested to hear how you think they compare as prospects.
This would be fun for A's fans

A Trade Bait section would be fun
looking at prospects on contending teams that might catch the fancy of teams looking to sell but aren’t in the untouchable range of prospects.

I'm all over. I love all these ideas!

A Josh Outman prospect retro would be interesting as well.

AA Tranistion monitor
has always been one of my favorites.
The Dodgers won't win a playoff series until the Cool-a-Coo returns.
short-season preview
A quick list of short-season players to keep an eye on, meaning guys other than those drafted in ’09. A couple guys that come to mind: catcher Doc Doyle in the Mets system, and third baseman Spencer Lucian in the Yankees system.
Doyle in particular
Considering that John was pretty high on him when he was drafted.
Prospect Retro: Brandon Inge
Is he a Surprise, or what?

2008 draft review
Not sure how you’d keep it short, but maybe list some pitchers and hitters that have been particularly impressive or performed above expectations, with a quick comment on each guy.
Prospect Retro: Ben Zobrist
craaaazy production this year
While you are at it
Why not add Jason Bartlett to the list as well
#269: Listen to SPORTS ROUNDUP every Sunday at 7:00pm at WVBR.com
Anyone think he keeps it up?
Solace: Law says he's a fourth OFer
PaulThomas: I think Keith Law is only a fourth analyst
International free agents
John, I really enjoyed the “Recent History of…” series. I’d love to see a similar close look at the evolution of international free agency in the last decade or so.

MILB trades that make sense for both clubs
Basically trade ideas where system A is stacked in one area and deficient in another and vice versa for system B.

A little work here, but do a team by team comparision of where the talent is in a system
Something like this bit I did: Link
and then each year people can see if the talent is moving up or degrading in the system.
Jeff Zimmerman - Protecting the world from RBI's and Wins from my mom's guest house.
Hit & Run
Josh Thole
Aaron Hicks (once he has logged a decent sample of ABs at Beloit)
Jennry Mejia (as someone mentioned above)
James McDonald
Jason Heyward (just returned from injury, otherwise is he producing as you’d expect?)
Top Team Ten Rundown
A quick hitter of Top-10 per farm team and if they’re + or – or = (improving/sliding/holding) and do an AL / NL team per post to stretch it out a few weeks?
Or top-5… that’d be awesome to watch/track.

Inman vs Outmad redux
Or a look back / re-evaluation of other prospect smackdowns that were done in the past to see where John was wrong and/or right. Wood vs Braun and F-Mart vs Tabata would also be interesting to look at given how in each case the prospects have gone in different directions.
