Colby Rasmus slowly moving ahead of the pack for NL ROY

He is playing everyday, his average is rapidly rising from the .220's to now at .269.  He is starting to smash a ton of XBH's with a lot of doubles.  Those doubles are going to become homers someday.  Right now he won't be the base stealer that Sizemore is but you know what.  Colby Rasmus is beginning to show why I once put a crazy comp of him to Duke Snider.  It will be an interesting race for the NL rookie of the year.  Who do you guys like for the award.

lefties

He’s got like a .450 OPS vs. lefties. He IS crushing righties, no doubt, but that lefty line is going to be a problem.

He’s also got 3 walks since the end of April.

He may get the ROY by default

Rasmus minor league #'s indicate that he has no more trouble with lefties , than he does righties

his #’s vs Lefties in the bigs is skewed because the sample size is too small because TLR is matchup crazy and will not start him against lefties.

someone on VEB made a fanpost and addressed why his walk totals are somewhat misleading.

yeah that is bad

still a small sample size to indicate a trend. Edmonds had trouble like that early in his career I think.

that was just funny though

Colby for Cahill?

Was going to make a post out of it but, decided against it. I never let ANY advice stop me from doing a trade in my Diamond Mind league but, still like to hear what people think.

Im considering an offer of Colby Rasmus for Trevor Cahill. My thoughts are kinda 50/50 in it- going back and forth

On one hand, pitching depth and a 21 year old kid holding his own in the big leagues is rare – on the other, young CF’s who can hit with power and play the position are even more rare and, all things being equal, the injury risk is less.

Anybody think I should pull the trigger and get this Rasmus kid? The hotter he gets with the bat the more it makes me want to do it. Oh well, with my luck Trevor Cahill will get raked around tomoorow and the deal will be off- lol

I'd take Rasmus

Sergio Romo: striking out professional hitters since 2005. And winner of the 2012 NL Fireman of the Year Award!

given that he's about the only rookie with >100 AB's

he’s got a good head-start. I don’t see Jordan Schaefer being competition!

Hansen

Although Hansen could steal it away from Rasmus with a good 2/3 of a season.

What about Dexter Fowler

He’s playing every day, and playing pretty well in Colorado. 5 steals in one game was pretty impressive. Overall he’s only hitting .250 with three homers so I can see why he’d fly under the radar a bit. If he picks up that average he should be a solid competitor for the ROY

candidates

There are a lot of “ranked” guys that are just now getting to play that could be candidates (McCutcheon, Gerardo Parra, Hanson, Gamel) and Jordan Zimmermann’s ERA doesn’t do justice to how well he’s actually been pitching.

My dark horse candidate is Randy Wells. He’s been excellent so far in the Cubs rotation, and he’ll get a lot of big market attention if it continues and he gets bright shiny Ws during the pennant race.
