Daniel Schlereth called up
The Diamondbacks have promoted LHP Daniel Schlereth, their first pick in last year's draft. The 23-year-old Schlereth, a product of the University of Arizona, had three saves and a 1.42 ERA at Double-A Mobile. He struck out 21 in 19 innings. Arizona optioned left-hander Doug Slaten to Triple-A Reno.
Thoughts on this? He's new to the pro leagues, but how will his impact be? Is there any sort of room for him to show what he's got this year, or next, or is he 3 or 4 years away?

What do you mean
. . .by “show what he’s got”? If you mean, is he going to pitch . . .well, I don’t think he would have been promoted if they didn’t have the intention of using him. And if he pitches well, he’ll probably get a lot of use.
Of course, if you’re asking, “Am I adding Daniel Schlereth to my fantasy baseball roster tonight?” then that’s another question. He’ll have to hope that Chad Qualls totally implodes (unlikely) and that nobody with actual MLB experience gets the call ahead of him and runs with it. I suppose if Qualls gets dealt then Schlereth fits the late-inning profile as well as anybody in Arizona . . .but whether or not he’s remotely ready for that job is a question that isn’t close to being answered.
schlereth
yep 92-93 and a slider at 81-82. he has good stuff, but i thought the report on him last year at draft time was more of a 95-97 guy. i questioned it then b/c i had seen him pitch before and he never touched that high. i guess we’ll see after he’s been in the bigs for a while.
