CF prospect smackdown Borbon vs Brown
Both these players were among the better college OFs in the 07 draft and now looks like future CFs for the AL West teams around 2010-2011.
Julio Borbon Rangers:
| Texas Rangers in 1st Round (35th overall) of 2007 amateur entry draft |
leadoff type. speed, defense, not much power. top of the order energizer that could be a terror on the basepaths
mlb comparison: lofton/damon type

Corey Brown A's:
Oakland Athletics in 1st Round (59th overall) of 2007 amateur entry draft
multi tool CF, but K's/contact issues. Sickles on Brown: "The former Oklahoma State star is quite toolsy, with outstanding raw power, good speed, and a strong arm."

Borbon
I’m not buying into Brown’s hot start. I’m not saying I love Borbon, but I just really don’t see a Major Leaguer in Brown at this point.

Not buying his 1.100+ OPS 3 years in College with 1.229 OPS his Last Year.
along with a 900OPS minor league career? Sure he Ks a lot.. but he can mash, play CF and steal some bags.
"Their Triple-A rotation, led by Trevor Cahill and Brett Anderson, could be better than some big-league rotations; Michael Ynoa is the best Latin American prospect of the decade; 2008 draftees Jemile Weeks and Rashun Dixon bring much-needed tools to an advanced group of hitters." - BaseballProspectus.com
I've seen him play
If it’s not a fastball pretty much down the middle, he’s not hitting it. He doesn’t appear to have a real plan at the plate, instead looking for the one pitch he can crush. When he gets it, he crushes it. But I expect him to run into some real problems as he advances to higher levels. And he isn’t exactly young for the league he’s in.
I do hope I’m wrong about this one, but for someone with such good numbers I see him having a hard time hitting very good pitching unless he makes some big changes.

Fair enough.
Looking at just the number he seems to be on his way to being a decent OFer.
