Mat Latos & Will Inman Promoted

MadFriars.com reports that the Padres promoted Mat Latos from Low-A to AA San Antonio and Will Inman to AAA.

"Latos, 21, has gone 3-0 with a 0.36 ERA (1 ER/25.1 IP) in four starts with Low-A Fort Wayne this season. He has allowed just 10 hits and three walks while striking out 27."

"Inman went 4-1 with a 3.05 ERA (18 ER/44.1 IP)..."

The Padres' talent again shows itself to be better than advertised.

latos/inman

everyone knew latos was good … if he could stay healthy.
as for inman, he is what he is – a potential mid-end of the rotation type arm. he’s really tightened up the control this year, which was well worth the small k rate drop, imo.

isn’t this more of a fanshot btw?

Latos wasn’t healthy last year, but he was healthy as a JUCO and healthy as a year-1 professional. So the health concern is valid but not as drastic as it is for other hurlers… I even understand not having him in a top 100 list last year b/c he missed so much time. Now he’s healthy, he dominated Low-A, so the Padres decided to be aggressive with him.

I agree w/ you on Inman all the way around.

I thought “fanshots” were fan pictures… No?

I'm under the impression that

fanshots are for quick things like this – you can post links, post short comments, post a quote, along with posting a picture … different options available.

that said, that’s based on my other experiences on the sb network. each website head has their own rules and I don’t recall John’s right now.

LOL

I love this whole thread is about whether or not I used the correct thread format and not about the Latos/Inman promotions…

HAHA! I never even knew about fanshots...

and looking at the comment traffic down there, I’d suspect others don’t know about it either. So I’m glad you posted here because I have Latos on my team and was excited to see he’s in AA now.

Latos is very impressive, his scouting report is really good, I like that he’s 21 without much mileage on the arm, and his numbers in A ball were ridiculous. I’m eager to see how he handles AA.

Way to go Wil

My favorite pitching prospect based on the fact that he gets ZERO respect around here and he has had nothing but sucesss, and is young at that.

I worried about him because the injury record for guys who have pitched a full season in the Tex League arent good- let alone guys who repeat it- that is crual and unusaul punishment.

I assume he’ll continue to have sucess in AAA – and in the show when he gets there.

BTW, he has always had good control before last season so cutting the walks should have come to no surprise to anybody really.

Cruel and unusual punishment?

What brings you to the conclusion that the rigors of the Texas League have a negative long-term effect on pitchers?

With Inman, he pitched at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, a pitchers’ haven similar to PETCO Park.

Because ...

last year I took a look

I wanted to see how guys who were Inmans age and were having his kind of sucess there fared in the majors and a whole bunch of them were guys who got hurt – major injuries. Im not saying that it was because of the Texas League but, it makes sense – any place where it is tougher than average to finish an inning is tougher on a pitcher.

I didnt look to see how guys who pitched another season fared but, it couldnt be better – lol. I’ll try to find the data for you if I can or you can look down through the years at baseballref.com

Didnt realize Inmans park was a good one for pitchers but, relatively, it is still a tough league for pitchers right?

Anyways, I love Inman and hope he does well.
