MOD Diamondbacks
After graduating most of our top prospects over the last couple years we find ourself in a down period on the farm. Aside from Jarrod Parker there doesn't appear to be many players with a huge upside, at least that we've seen thus far. We have a ton of average arms and almost nothing as far as hitters. I want to add some promising bats to the organization, but given our lack of overall talent I will add an arm if he is the best available at a certain spot.
We have pick 16 & 17 in Round 1, picks 35, 41, and 45 in the supplemental round. Picks 60 & 64 in Round 2, and pick 95 in Round 3. So with all the early picks we have a chance to add a bunch of talent and start a quick rebuild to the system if we do a good job in this draft.
So I need all you area scouts to give me some input as to who you have your eye on, who you think might be sliding into the middle of the first round to us, and anybody that I should take a second look at while going over my scouting reports.

with that many picks..
it would be nice to grab a nice combo of players. A college bat that can move fast would be ideal..but at 16 it may not happen. If any of the big time High school guys fall due to signabilty issues…lets grab em. I would like to Re-draft Kendall Volz at some point..but is 16 o 17 to high?

Luke Bailey
With as many picks as we have..do we jump on Luke Bailey with maybe the 45th pick? seems as though consensus is he has fallen to rd 3/4 because of his injury…but we have the amount of picks to take a shot. I think we should also look at Daniel Webb and the Paxton kid from Kentucky

multiple picks
having quite a few picks lets us do some different things. We can take a pitcher if we wanted with our first pick, or both 1st if it made sense. But at some point we need to get a couple bats into the system, I don’t want to overdraft to get them though. I do see adding a mixture of bats and arms, hopefully leaning towards bats if we can find some in a rather weak hitting draft that make sense at the spots we pick. I know some of the bigger names will probably fall to our spot in the real draft, but in the mock not much consideration is given to signability so I don’t see any of them falling to far but we shall see.
I wouldn’t take Kendal Volz in the 1st Round, he hasn’t been as good as he was last year and his velocity isn’t what it was, some are suspicious his arm isn’t 100%. If thats the case its almost a lock that he will return as a reliever. And I’m not like my team the M’s who lately love wasting 1st rounders on relievers.
As for Luke Bailey, HS catchers are very risky, and given that his injury is to one of his best tools I wouldn’t be too eager to grab him.
James Paxton is another guy that may end up projecting to the bullpen so I’m not sold on him early in the draft even with the huge arm.
Daniel Webb was drafted by us last year didn’t sign, we don’t want to go there again.
I should have some player ideas soon, you guys can help me think them through and make sure I’m not missing something.

Catchers
Since you brought up Bailey I thought we could look at some of the catchers and you can give me your opinions on them. If I didn’t list someone you really like its probably because I haven’t seen him or am not real high on him, but feel free to include him. So tell me what your opinions are on these HS C’s.

Catchers
HS Catchers are always risky, but with the amount of picks we have..we can afford to take a risk and hope for a huge return. I wouldnt mind drafting someone that is seen as a pen arm, granted maybe not with 16 or 17. A guy like Paxton may move fast as a RP or slower as a starter. I kinda lien him to Cubs 2008 pick Dan Mcdaniel(who is starting in A ball) it was thought he would be fast tracked as a RP..but he is starting..we can always begin a guy starting and change him over whewn he gets somes innings in

Infielders
I’ll post my thoughts after I get some of your opinions on some guys, today lets look at the IF.
Grant Green- alot of talk about him sliding, how far do you think he really ends up falling
Rich Poythress- do you think he becomes more than a AAA slugger?
Nick Franklin or Jiovanni Mier- which SS do you like? I like Givens as the #2 SS, who’s #3
David LeMahieu- whats you opinion of him?
Kyle Seagar or Jeff Kobernus- who would you rather take a chance on?
OFers will be up next, lets hear some feedback from you guys to help me start to finalize my draft board
