Brandon Wood is still a top prospect
He is now hitting .351 with 8 HR, an .877 SLG% and a 1.317 OPS in only 57 Triple A ABs. After his last season where he hit .296 with 31 HR in 395 ABs, it's clear that the power is for real. BUT now he's also showing a 9/12 K/BB ratio, which granted is a small sample size but has been showing signs of improving his plate discipline.
In addition, he is now playing SS in the minors. After sporadic intervals of call-ups to ride the pine, he continued producing, and put up solid numbers in his last call-up of 2008 and his 2009 stint combined. Maybe he will take over for Aybar, or get traded to a team that'll give him a chance. After all, he's still only 24. I think he can still put up .260, 30 HR seasons at Shortstop if given the legitimate shot that he badly deserves. I don't get why such a potentially exciting player gets so little attention on this site (other than SNTS i guess)

its not like there was ever a "problem" with him
but the fact that he has less than 200 ABs over the last 3 years is a shame
he SHOULD be getting to play somewhere in the majors one way or another
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

what more can we say
everyone knows its a shame the way he has been handled and we can talk all we want but things aren’t going to change. most here probably think he will be a solid contributor at the next level it is just about getting a legitimate chance.
maybe the switch to SS is a sign
that he’ll supplant Aybar or get traded, especially with so many ML shortstops off to a bad start this year. I wouldn’t give up on his chances just yet.

I don't think a lot of ML SS are "off to a bad start"
I think there’s just a lot of crappy players starting at the position right now.

I wish the Royals would trade for him and give him a shot at SS
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
+1
This makes a ton of sense, but who could they offer the Angels? I feel like Hochevar is the only sensible option, and even that seems like a stretch.
reliever?
Angels are kinda desperate for one and don’t seem to trust Wood anyway. Unforunately, with soria down roylas are kinda short handed in that regard. Maybe you could toss in wright with hochevar.
the electrician and hochevar
no chance that nets you wood, your almost guaranteed to get a better offer for him than that

And Salt lake is still...
just kidding.
Wood deserves a shot.
I seems like everyone wants to trade for Wood, but . . .
only in a fire sale.
Honestly, Wood has a bright future with the Angels, but the Angels work on a different time schedule than most teams. My guess is that the Angels will let Figgins walk next year and that Wood will be their starting 3B (of even SS) for the next 5+ years.
yea, i bet this is exactly what happens
Wood should get his solid chance next year, a little bit like the chance Morales is getting now at 1B for them

I agree with the statement of the OP, although 50 at-bats in Salt Lake is not evidence of why

Sure, he's a prospect
I’m just not sure he’s an Angels’ prospect, for some reason.
Mike Scioscia talking strategy with Wood:
MS: Now, I’m sending you up there with the bases loaded and two outs.
BW: Gotcha, skip. I won’t let you down.
MS: Good, now go up there and bunt for a basehit.
BW: Huh? Bunt? Why the hell would I bunt here?
MS: BECAUSE THAT’S THE KIND OF BASEBALL WE PLAY!
BW: Dude, I haven’t bunted since I was 7.
MS: DO IT!
BW: jackass

Later that day.
BW: Hey skip, I was wondering what I had to do to get more playing time?
MS: That’s easy. Be more like Maicer Izturis.
BW: Uh-huh.
MS: He’s the kind of ballplayer I like out there.
BW: Macey?
MS: Yup.
BW: …………………………
Same guy, new name.

It's the Adam Dunn problem
A lot of people in baseball prefer to focus on what a player can’t do, rather than what he can do. This is how Ortiz got run out of Minnesota and how Dunn has never gotten any love. Wood will get his chance eventually and will be very good, and people who can’t cope with strikeouts will have to cry themselves to sleep at night.
