5/14 MILB Thread

Intriguing game between Myrtle Beach and Frederick highlights early action. Brian Matusz had pitched two scoreless before Heyward took him deep in the third. Heyward also has a walk. After a brilliant 13 K outing last time, we'll see how Matusz does in this one.

Starters to look for later include -

Daryl Thompson, Jeff Samardzija, Neftali Feliz, Bud Norris, Evan Anundsen, Alejeandro Sanabia (see this week's Rotowire show), Brett Hunter, William Smith, Bret Lorin, Casey Kelly, TJ House vs Wilmer Font, Ross Seaton, Jason Knapp, Matt Moore, Jeurys Familia

MILB Scoreboard

Post away.

Fields sidelined by sore shoulder

Josh Fields, Seattle's top pick last June, has pitched just once since April 30th (a poor outing on May 5th).

Why?

According a Diamond Jaxx beat writer, "He'd had some shoulder soreness last week when they were in town."

He's not on the DL, and hopefully it's nothing major, but as Kevin Goldstein wrote last month:

"He could get a late-season look, that is unless his arm falls off, as one scout who saw him recently categorized his mechanics as "some of the most violent I've seen in recent memory."

You might be able to put two and two together on this one.

Why is there a Dexter Carter line at the top?

by DirtySox on May 14, 2009 12:53 PM EDT reply actions

ahhh

I saw Carter for W-S and assumed Dexter. Apparently it was Anthony.

Not relevant to today's games, but ..

Mat Latos is looking mighty gross these days.

Heyward went yard on Matusz...

He came into last night’s game hitting .242/.318/.432 -.750 OPS, he’s currrently hitting .270/.362/.520 -.882 OPS. Watch out Carolina League. Looks like the hip is healthy and he’s about to go on a tear.

They’re going into extras in Frederick, by the way…

game over

Pedro Florimon Jr hit a walk off homerun to propel Frederick to a 7-6 win.

Jake Stevens, a hot-name in the Braves system a few years ago, gets the win in relief for the Keys.

new delivery

from my understanding, the A’s gave him a new delivery that he is still trying to work out. I’m predicting a few starts like this until he gets used to said delivery.

Casey Kelly

6 IP, 3 Ks, 0 BBs, 2 hits, no runs. That means he’s given up only 4 ERs in 37.1 IP

Oscar Tejeda went 1/3 with a double.

Nice to see the "minor" shoulder issue truly was minor

Only 1 bb is encouraging, too. 3 bb in his last two outings. It’s a start.

Jeanmar Gomez

6’3" 20 year old RHP already with AA Akron in the Indians system, tonight went 8 IP, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 H, 8 Ks. In 20 AA IP he’s got 18 Ks, 1 BB, 9 H, and a GB rate pushing near 60%. It’s time to start tracking him.

Here's a link

http://www.indiansprospectinsider.com/2009/02/indians-top-100-prospects-25-jeanmar.html

Seems to be some discrepancy on his age though, some places have him as 21 already, some don’t have him turning 21 until October.

Age

Nevermind, the place I saw him at age 20 just had his month/day backwards, he’s 21.
