MOD Rangers
Since there's a vocal Rangers community on this site, I expect plenty of input from you. Even though I'll be making the decisions, please feel free to give any input or insight you might have.
Our Picks
#14
#44
#62
#93
Just remeber: Signability is an issue when I'm making decisions, as I don't want to pick someone that doesn't sign. It's guesswork, but it's a factor. Also, there is no budget, so we're going best player available across the board. Try not to think in terms of organizational need, but in terms of who the best player is when each pick comes up.
Who do you like? Who do you think will be there when we pick?

Is there anywhere, free, to look at the top pospects in the draft?

Info on college players is readily available.
This site has a good number of profiles of both college and high school kids. And the draft blog at BA is free.

Oliver @ 14
Cain @ 44. What the hell, keep stockpiling pitching. How high would Cain be thought of on offense alone?

Cain
He’s a legit draft prospect both ways, but his ceiling is higher as a pitcher.

Oliver
has been mediocre this year.
Andy, why don’t you start with a list of players you like for the 14th spot, and then we can discuss the merits of those specific players, and then rinse and repeat for the other spots?

Sure thing.
Coming up momentarily here in the comments. You want to be the deputy?

Nevermind on the deputy part.
I just saw you got the Twins.

"Dear dumb ass folowers of FSMism,
There have been a lot of weird things that i have seen in my life before, but this tops them all. Do you really believe that there is/was such a thing as a flying spaghetti monster? Seriously, how fucking old are you? I know there’s such a thing as freedom of speech and expression, but this kinda shit should be banned. Theres is only one God and one Holy Word. Why dont you people get that? How much sense does it make to say that decreasing numbers of pirates lead to an increase in average global temperature? Is that science or some fifth grader trying to sound smart?"

is there a mock out there that has crow falling to us?
(jw)
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Scout to KG: On Sandoval: "Man, that fat [expletive]-er can hit."

I know this may be crazy
but if the draft were to play out just like it did in your most recent mock and we are left on the outside looking in with most of the sexy pitcher names, then I wouldn’t mind seeing us take a guy like Brian Borchering. I think he is being underrated because he may not stick at 3B (even though people shouldn’t act like it is a sure thing he moves), but he sounds like the best prep hitter in the draft and it sounds like he has a bat that could play in left field. he sounds advanced from both sides of the plate and has had a strong senior season. I could get behind that pick.

the other plus side here
is that he doesn’t sound like a terribly difficult sign, allowing the team more financial flexibility to catch a falling star in the supplemental round.

i am a huge proponent of BPA
but, i mean, takign stassi or myers would be a little silly i think…
i would also throw michael givens hat into the ring as a pitcher. i dont see miller, turner, purke, wheeler, falling to them.

Is there any chance
that Colton Cain gets some consideration for that first pick (14)? It seems like he has a little helium lately.

I still need a deputy for this draft.
Anyone interested?

for what its worth
if slade heathcott is there at 44, he would be a verrrrrrry interesting pick i think…

i think he could be there
in the second round as well. you never know when these HS kids will slip because the average fan rarely has a firm handle on what they are demanding.

the thing about him is that he was hurt all year/now is ineligible
but hes, from all that i can tell, VERY good
another guy i really, REALLY REALLY want the rangers in on is josh turley (from same school) — kid does nothing but succeed (PG, team USA, tournament of stars, etc) and is a straight up stud – little small 6’, 170-180ish i think, and throws in the mid 80s, touching 90 but if he put on some weight and ended up sitting in high 80s, low 90s the guy could be really good….

2007 vs. 2009
In 2007 the Rangers got Beavan at #17 and Neil Ramirez at # 44.
Do they come away with better talent with #14 and #44 in the 2009 draft?
by peachygbc_1 on May 19, 2009 9:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
With good luck, yes.
Ramirez was a slight overdraft as a kid whose polish was below a normal elite prep’s polish. We’ve seen that in his command troubles. Electric stuff, but with command problems. So if you go with a pair of BPA candidates in those slots, there’s a good chance that you can get better talent. There’s definitely talent to be found in this class.
