Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Ike Davis's Power Sighted

Aftera  dreadful pro debut and slow start to the year, Ike Davis is up to .297/.373/.446 and hit his first pro home run on Tuesday.  Decent production for the Fla State league.  No word on whether he painted an aluminum bat to look like wood.

Maybe he sucked the strength outta Nick Evans.  What an atrocious start in Buffalo.  of course, having tasted the buffet in the majors, he may be a little disappointed with the chicken wings, beef on weck, spiedies and saratoga fries up state.  Although why that would be I don't know.

it's early yet.

We’ll see.

Not saying he’ll be a star, but at least as of now giving gklimmers of not being the complete bust he seemed.

Maybe he can turn into Adam Laroche. :)

Davis is hitting .300/.400/.491 vRHP, so he certainly has the more useful of the two platoon splits. If he’s going to have to play first base, though, I don’t think he’s an answer. I think he’d be a better bet at LF or RF, which he can reportedly play.

1b/lf/reliever

They say he inherited Ron’s power arm.

He can't play anywhere else

He looks pretty good at 1B, but I don’t think he nearly runs well enough to play outfield. Hes slower than I expected from those reports. He shouldn’t be anywhere but 1B.

But he has no doubt 30+ HR power potential as well. There really should be no question with his size and build that he’ll have 30+ HR power, the doubts should be about whether he’ll hit for enough average or not control the strike zone, strikeout too much, and not draw enough walks.
