Getting way too excited over early-season minor league stats.

Ramon Santana. Twins SS prospect in Beloit (midwest league). He's a bit old for a league, but he is smokin' hot. He has never had an OPS over .720, this year it's 1.135

He's about to be 23 years old and is only 5'9" 154 lbs.

But I saw him play in spring training this year with the big club

In Ft. Myers he actually was with the team for 2-3 games….

good little player but I doubt he ever makes a big impact at the major league level IF he ever gets there at all.

Kris Watts

Lynchburg of the Carolina League. Batting .444 (24 for 54) to start the year, including a 12-for-19 split against lefties as a left-handed batter.

You are a jinx.

He sprained his ankle and will be out 2-3 weeks. Link.

My guy like this is Zeke Spruill

of the 20-1 K-BB ratio, and the 66% GB%.

Not bad for a guy who was going to prom this time last year.

Plus, I love the sinker/slider mix, and projectible frame. I think that fastball gets more heat on it when he adds some more weight.

He’s starting today, so I’m hoping to see that K-BB ratio further improve. Dude is flexing that control.

+1

looks like a really nice sandwich pick for a kid that was a one pitch player coming out of high school.

he has given up a lot of hits though. BUT, Rome’s defense is an abomination. So put some gloves behind him and his numbers would probably be even more ridiculous.

Yeah, their defense is pretty atrocious. They had Sime playing short at the game I saw. God was that an adventure.

This year's Jesus Guzman?

Statistically, someone’s gotta be it…

For the A’s, I’ve got my eye on David Thomas. I like the combination of power, contact ability and speed, and sometimes late-bloomers from D-II have more upside when they get picked in the late rounds than major-college guys who’ve been weighed, and found wanting, by the Upharsin… er, sorry, I mean scouts.

Looking at his page I see he’s earned a rapid callup to Stockton, which is a more age-appropriate league (as his seasonal age is an “old” 22 this year).
