Brandon Wood recalled from Triple-A
From Rotoworld:
"It remains to be seen how the Angels will deploy him, but the power-hitting infielder is a must-add in AL-only leagues and someone to watch closely in deeper mixed leagues. Not only does Wood have 3B and SS eligibility in many formats, but he also possesses legitimate power -- he was hitting .346 with four homers and eight RBI in Triple-A at the time of his callup."
He's been a favorite of mine for a long time, I've stuck with him through the thick and thin, after all the kid is 23, plays good defense at shortstop and hit .296/.375/.595 with 31 HR in 395 Triple A at-bats in 2008, showing a real breakthrough after some stagnation the previous two seasons.
What I want to know is how the Angels plan to use him. Personally I think the Angels would benefit for him trying out at SS and push out Aybar who isn't bringing anything to the table, though with Vlad's injury Wood can always play 3rd and Figgy move to OF. It just drove me crazy in the past how they called up Wood to have him rot on the bench for a lot of time before sending him back down, it's amazing that it hasn't fazed him but I think he really deserves a shot at a full-time role this time around. Thoughts?

He does deserve a full-time role.
But my respect for the decisions that Scioscia makes with position players is pretty much nothing.
Embarrassing
that Maicer Izturis has seen some ab’s at DH for the Angels this year. I’m guessing this is a move to get him some ab’s so they can deal him for a SP at some point. I’d like to see him on the Cubs in exchange for Sean Marshall.
Are you serious about marshall for izturis?
Why in the world would the cubs trade their 5th starter (making the min) for a MI who they don’t need?
Erick Aybar
Is 2-3 tonight, rasiing his average to .265
He is also playing nice defense.
I think he’ll hit close to .300 myself and is among the most underated ballplayers right now. Also worth mentioning is that he has come to the plate 36 times as of this writing. He hardly brings “nothing to the table”
He doesn’t walk, he doesn’t hit for power. Even if he hits .300, which I doubt, it would be an extremely empty .300. More likely he hits in the .280 range with absolutely nothing else. That’s “nothing to the table”.

Let me put that in perspective:
He’s slightly better than Rey Ordonez except he’s on a team that can’t hit.

I wouldn't say "nothing to the table"
That’s a fine utility infielder. That’s what Aybar should be.

Well, then let’s be specific. Erick Aybar is a fine utility infielder. He brings “nothing to the table” as a starter.

Disagree
We’ll see.
I think he can hit .288 with 30 2bs and 10-12 Homers and be basically what Christian Guizman is right now. Thats a top 8-12 big league SS with his leather. He has more pop in his barrel than you know or hes shown thus far- just 650 PA’s, only 25- Hes got skills and time on his side.
Izturis
was at DH and was 3rd in the order yesterday. As pointed out by my league-mate GL to me yesterday. Yikes.
Mind blowing
I saw it and immediately checked the box score to see if Juan Rivera or somebody else had started at DH and came out with an injury…
Just terrible. For a team with trouble scoring runs to begin with, they can ill afford that kind of poor management.
I've been saying for years that Scoscia is the most overrated manager in baseball
Guy does a lot of really stupid things.

04.22.09 lineup is set....
and Brandon Wood is once again working on getting splinters in his butt.
Does Maicer Izturis have incriminating photos of Scioscia?
The Giants need to sign Harry Doyle.
Big surprise
And the Angels laid a nice goose egg to boot. One would have to think SOME kind of shake up in that lineup would be in order.
2009; John Lester becomes an ace?
