Suggestions
Taking suggestions. . . you know the drill. Any more Not a Rookies you want? Anything else?
I might do a few Crystal Balls, but I'm not sure how popular those really are.
The season is almost here. . .

How about something on Dexter Fowler?
Crystal ball would be cool, or something more slanted toward this upcoming season now that he has the job in COL.
Fowler prospect smackdown
Fowler vs Rasmus vs Maybin
with these three CF about to take the reins, it would be interesting to see a side by side by side comparison/projection
Not A Rookie!
Any Giants player, esp.
Pablo Sandoval
Fred Lewis
Jonathan Sanchez
or maybe
Emmanuel Burriss
Brian Wilson.
Or anything on the 2009 draft, or the 2010 draft.

+ 1 on sandoval
lewis would be interesting too though
+1 sandoval

Historic Scouting Reports
I really really like crystal balls a bunch, if for no other reason than the comments section, which often ends up devolving into “If you suggest that Jay Bruce will hit anything less than 900 homers, you’re a worthless a-hole with no life.”
One thing I thought would be a cool addition is examining what scouting reports said about players of the past – Heinie Manush! Rabbit Maranville! No, not that far back, but it would be interesting to discuss what the early analyses on, say, Dale Berra or Steve Garvey were, now that we can see their major league careers in full. Granted, this is assuming that you (John) had the patience, time, and desire to collect them.
Porcello
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Tigers breaking camp with porcello. Do you think this will hurt his career? Is it an act of desperation by the Tigers? Etc, etc.

along with comparisons to players with similar stuff and/or players who spent that little time in the minors…

Historical Retros
I’d love to see more retrospectives on famous players, particularly flops like Brad Komminsk.
Draft
Anything to do with the upcoming draft.
I want to hear any spring reports you may have heard on Homer Bailey
6 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 ER, 8 K today… against most of Houston’s starting lineup
i’m gonna love the day when everyone realizes they gave up way too soon on him.
I know this is kind of random
but maybe something like “Where did they go?”
prospects who were pretty big at some point but kind of fell off the map (but are still playing and might have a possibility of making it). someone like Cesar Carillo.

How about a Pedro Alvarez crystal ball?

Well
I emailed you about it, but I’ll ask here, too.
Community projections for Shairon Martis… Interested in seeing what people think of him.
How about a projected minor league all-star team"
Players who you think will end this season as top performers at their positions.
I suppose it could get tricky, since you might want to choose players who won’t get called up too quickly by the major league clubs, or get promoted too soon to a higher level.
John, I love your crystal balls
I mean, um, you know… :-)

History of . . .
Really liked the history of SS and Catchers, but what about a History of (Fill in skill profile here)—something like, “History of Big Power, High Strikeout Prospects” or “History of Low-K rate but ridiculous control lefties”?
Daniel Murphy . . .
not a rookie, please

I’m curious what kind of power he might project to have. would he have 20-HR upside, or is he Brian Roberts in terms of high-doubles productivity (obvi without the steals)?
Murphy
Personally, I think 20 homeruns might be a career high. Looks more like a 13-17 homerun kinda guy with a good OBP.

Ronnie Paulino/Mike Rabelo/Justin Ruggiano
with all the recent trades I’d love to see a piece on Paulino, see if you think he can bounce back to being a good major leaguer, or if he has tapered off.
A crystal ball on Mike Rabelo would be interesting also.
Crystal ball on Justin Ruggiano would be interesting (especially for me as a Rays fan)
Travis Snider crystal ball
I think he could have an interesting career path, especially considering he had been comped to Billy Butler not so long ago (that Butler crystal ball doesn’t look so bad now, does it?)

I’d like to see a “Not a rookie” on Jarrod Saltalamacchia

Crystal Balls
I really enjoy the Crystal Balls, John. Just do us Mets fans a favor and don’t trade Mike Pelfrey within four years to the Braves. :)
Biggest Bust Potential
We often hear about guys with the potential to bust out and move up the rankings a year from now. I’d love to hear about guys you have ranked highly that you think have a real risk of slipping and falling down the list.
New idea?
How about a compare/contrast:
Nirvana vs. Pearl Jam vs. Alice In Chains as king of Seattle’s Grunge scene circa 1990.
Who was more talented? Who has more staying power in terms of relevance? Is Pearl Jam really as innovative as we’ve been led to believe? Did Eddie Vedder ignore the memo about how lead singers must die before 30?
These are the answers we really need in times like these.

Dominican prospects
I’m interested in info on the top prospects from the Dominican Republic for the upcoming draft, or just in general.
Thoughts on prospects and underrating them
Say a guy like Jaff Decker whom people don’t really seem to be excited about. Or someone like Ryan Kalish that had a fair bit of buzz but seems to have gotten knocked down a fair bit for his injury sapping his power.
Headley VS Stewart
Compeare these 2 players- Stewart VS Headley
by jwjc11 on Mar 28, 2009 12:37 PM EDT 3 comments
In my eyes very similar players Stewart I feel has more hype, but Headley has as much power potential if not more. Curious to see what people are thinking about career numbers and who you would take if your home town team or fantasy team from 2009 to retirement?
Prospect Smackdown
I don’t feel like I’ve seen any of those recently. A few smackdowns I’d like to see:
Santana vs Posey
Fowler vs McCutchen
Andrus vs Escobar
Ceda vs Bard
Vogt early, Vogt often.
How about
A crystal ball prospect list with some topic.
Next year’s top ten players who moved up or down the most grades crystal ball.
Midseason’s top ten power bats crystal ball.
RIVER CATS: AAA CHAMPS!
Upton Bros. Crystal Balls
I think it would be cool to have crystal balls for both of the Upton Bros. Any chance they some day roam the same outfield and form the best brother combo in sports history?
How about...
Something on Rule 5 draftees who are going to be sticking with their new teams? I know the Pirates are going to hang onto Donnie Veal and the Cubs are seriously considering keeping David Patton. Considering they’re mostly lesser-known guys, people might appreciate hearing a bit more about them.
this would be really cool

A not a rookie for Justin Upton would be interesting. His PECOTA comparisons must be phenomenal.
re: crystal balls, prospect retros
hey John,
crystal ball Yovani Gallardo, Trevor Cahill, Brett Anderson please…
Prospect retros: Mark McGwire, Sammy sosa (or any of the big name steroid users).
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
Crystal balls please!
Really miss those when no new ones are posted for awhile.
How about an Aaron Cunningham? Second on the Cahill and Brett Anderson. Too early I’m sure for a Michael Ynoa.
Carlos Gonzalez
I would love to see a Not a Rookie for Carlos Gonzalez..
Yorman Rodriquez VS Angel Morales
who’s stronger Now
and Then (when assuming they reach the show)
