Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Looking at Phillippe Aumont through Pitch F/X

I took a deeper look at Aumont over at my site through the Pitch F/X system, but here is what the movement looked like on his pitches (2 seam FB, 4 seam FB and his Curve).

You can see more by going here if you want to. For those who didn't get to watch it live, Aumont's curveball was better than I had heard, although inconsistent. His fastball was as advertised, although out of the bullpen he probably was able to sustain a higher velocity than when he starts.

i couldn’t believe how tall and big, in a good way, aumont is. if everything comes together for him, he has the pure stuff to be big time.

i was very impressed.

he did a great job getting out of that jam against some of the best hitters in the world.

2007 draft

That bumper crop of high school arms in the 2007 draft seems to be on the verge of challenging the 2005 crop of position players. And my team picked Pete Kozma, go figure.

NL Central

Very underwhelming division when it comes to drafting.

nothing says “Organizational Competence” like drafting for positional need.

comp

He looks like a taller Kevin Brown to me.

by richieabernathy on Mar 9, 2009 2:03 PM EDT reply actions

That seems to be a favorite comp some folks have made.

After seeing him pitch a couple of times and knowing that he could still develop some off speed stuff better then Browns’, I’m not sure we should be making that easy comparison anymore. Hard two seamer, sure, but he’s got a good four seamer as well. He could build his arsenal around the sinker or around the power pitches as he’s still pretty raw.

Fans are typically idiots.

Daryl Kile

Seems like a better comp in my mind. If only Kile through 98 mph.

Almost identical stuff though. Brown didn’t have anywhere near that kind of breaking ball though.

From Lookout Landing:

94 mph tailing fastball vs Chipper Jones:

81 mph curve vs David Wright:

That's Right!

I have him on my dynasty team. After seeing how silly he made Wright and Chipper look, I am taking him off my trade block.

Sick!
