nope

i just think he’s gonna fan a lot of people.

I think sooner or later he’ll develop some serious K ability. Looking back it was probably silly of me to think he’d improve this much at this age.

Oh well.

I don't think it's all about him

1) the defense around him sucks
2) I think the grass is pretty fast anyway
3) the league will make adjustments the second year around
4) where the balls will go with a sinker is hard to predict, as they could be hit at someone or they could find a hole

Marlins D

To be fair, their defense will be muuuch improved this year.

Mike Jacobs was the second worst defensive 1B in the majors last year, according to the “+/-” stat. He is gone now and being replaced by Cantu, who is a well above average defensive 1B.

There are huuuuge misconceptions about Hanley and Uggla up the middle. Hanley had a horrible year in 07, defensively. No doubt. But, in 08 he has a +3 total, which is consistent with his 06 performance. This made him an above average shortstop in the majors last year, placing him in the upper third.

Uggla’s defensive struggles have been well documented, and seen widely via the All Star game. But he improved from the 29th worst 2B in the majors during the 07 season, to the 9th best in 08, reaching a total of +4.

Bonifacio will likely get the start at 3B this season, and while it’s a new position for him, he’s one of the rangiest athletes in the majors. He is obviously an unknown when considering the Marlins infield defense, but if he is even below average, the Marlins will still have an above average defensive infield.

Not to mention, having Maybin in CF, and switching Ross and Hermida on the corners makes their outfield defense adequate as well.
