08 Draft Spring Performances - Hitters

Thought it would be fun to take a look at how the top 08 draft picks were doing in spring training thus far.  Those who were invited of course.

In order of draft selection with at least 10 AB-

Play - G/ AB/ AVG/ SLG/ OBP

Tim Beckham - 11/ 11/ .182/ .273/ .250

Pedro Alvarez - 14/ 18/ .444/ .778/ .500 - 1 HR

Buster Posey - 15/ 19/ .421/ .789/ .435 - 2 HR

Gordon Beckham - 15/ 35/ .257/ .571/ .316 - 2 HR

Justin Smoak - 19/ 23/ .273/ .455/ .304 - 1 HR

Small sample sizes of course but some interesting numbers to say the least. Looks like this is shaping up to be on the better draft classes.

Some interesting notes:

Alvarez - it appears the concerns about his conditioning arent affecting his game.

Posey - Seems to have a bit more power than scouts predicted.

I know these are spring stats and really dont mean much but I think there fun to look at.

Your thoughts?

yeah

I was in amazement of Pedro’s .778 OBP for a second there… (not that .500 is chopped liver)

He's the New Barry Bonds!

A noob or n00b is someone that lacks intellegance or common sense, most people think that noob is a word used only in the online gaming world, but in reality it is becoming an ever popular word with teenage society.

a noob could be simply a level 100 running round shouting ‘’WTF DO I GO!?’’ or someone calling someone else a noob and then getting hit with a brick, anyone can call anyone a noob, but normally they are noobs themselves

Yeah, I get that everyone values certain stats differently and you can’t expect everyone to adopt one format, but it seems like everyone has their own individual statline…

In what St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa called a "big day" for his club, starter Chris Carpenter took the mound for his first session of live batting practice and promptly buzzed the fuzz on catcher Jason LaRue’s chin with an errant fastball.

"Sorry," Carpenter called from the mound.

"Don’t say you’re sorry," LaRue barked back.

"He said it," pitching coach Dave Duncan said from the side of the cage, "but he didn’t mean it."

Sorry I was mostly just following the format on mlb.com altough they have it obp/slug/avg witch was confusing to me so I put avg first
