Dynasty League Draft advice?

So I'm in a Dynasty league, 10 teams, typical 5x5 with OBP instead of AVG and 1CF/2OF instead of 3OF.  I have the 4th and 10th picks in the first round for this year's amateur draft to stock the minor league systems.  After the draft, the minors are off limits unless they make it to the show prior to Sept 1.

My expectation is that Madison Bumgarner, Pedro Alvarez and Tim Beckham will be off the board before my pick.  The rest of the draft pool is mostly breakout guys from last year that shot up the board, and 2008 draft picks.

I pretty much have zero holes on my major league roster (biggest risks are Rickie Weeks and Catcher with Mauer backed up by Teagarden).  OTOH, I have depth at both of the major positions that are strong for this draft class: I have Dunn/Kemp/BJ Upton/Chris B Young/Hermida as my current OF with Heyward, F.Mart, Tabata, Kalish, J.Duran, K.DeLeon (NYY,OF) as my OF prospects; I have Prince Fielder and Joey Votto at 1B in the majors.  I suspect that the best way to go is just straight upside.

Guys I'm looking at include: Stanton, Smoak,  Lars Anderson, Posey, Hanson, Hosmer, B. Wallace, C. Santana, Matusz, Brett Anderson, Ynoa.

Any  thoughts on who to take are appreciated.

I would say...

Personally I would take one of Smoak, Posey, Stanton, or Anderson. These are the players I like best at 1B, C, OF, and P (but I think it would be cool to have Ynoa). I think it would be wise to trade down to the #7-9ish position and grab hopefully two guys there (with your 10 pick) and have something else added on.

If you don’t want to do that, I’d take either Anderson or Posey at #4

I'd go 1B/3B

One of Lars Anderson, Smoak or Brett Wallace. They’ll all be impact hitters as soon as next year (possibly 2011) with serious upsides

Hanson

Pretty easy choice, IMO. He’s arguably the best of the guys you mentioned, and he’s a lock to see ML action at some point during the year.

Though I guess if you want a C with a TON of upside, Carlos Santana would be a great pick.

+1/2

I would take Hanson of those guys mentioned, but not by a mile, as you seem to suggest. I also like Smoak and Lars at I rate Posey about even with Santana.

Hanson&Lars

Hanson is a slam dunk and Lars would be a steal at 10. If Lars is gone, take a chance on Stanton as his upside is huge! Good luck.

Beckham and MadBum

I wouldn’t be so sure that they will be off the board, unless you know something i don’t.
I would definitely take a handful of those players before T Beckham, as well as MadBum. So you need to consider how you feel about those two cause one or both of them could be there very easily. I think i like Smoak and Hanson the best out of your options depending on whether you want hitting or pitching,.

From what I know of he guys drafting ahead of me

These are the guys I’d judge them most likely to take.

K.DeLeon

Why is he even owned in a 10 team league????

Late round gamble

IIRC, I looking at the idea of catching a Triunfel, Villalona, Wilmer Flores type a year before everyone else. I’ve been gambling a bit on some ARL boom/bust picks since my main roster is very deep and young so I don’t need immediate help from the farm unless it’s superstar talent.

With all due respect

In a 10 team mixed dynasty league, are the other teams significantly weaker or thinner?

Yes

A couple of my backups probably start for most of the other teams in the league.

And yeah, I get that it’s not really that deep.. my preference continues to be to do everything to get the league more competitive except of course for purposely tanking my own performance.

There’s a very good chance that I will cut DeLeon after this draft simply b/c of loading up on superior players… this is the nature of things where last year I had room and this year I may not.

Hanson Lars or Santana

Tommy Hanson will be up this year and ready to compete.

Lars Anderson is an impact hitter in the making.

Carlos Santana is a possible impact catcher- he’ll also reinforce one of your weakest positions.

Kind of Tempted

Right now, I’m a little tempted to go straight upside like Ynoa or Stanton since I don’t need an mlb-ready guy like Hanson or Lars (and I’m not that enthusiastic about chasing a 1B early in the draft given the high standard of offense necessary to carry that position in a fantasy league).

Hanson intrigues me, but I’m not convinced he won’t be available at 10 even, and maybe I’ve got a bit too much TINSTAPP that the flyball thing makes me a bit nervous… Santana feels like a bit of a reach, even though I like him a lot.
