Selena Roberts has Arod book Coming out this May
Yep, the same author who is the only person who has any sources abotu Arod using steroids, is coming out with a Book about Arod this May called "Hit and Run: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez."
So.... gotta wonder, what could she have to gain from putting out 4 unnamed sources who told her Arod is on a list of players who tested positive for steroids. A list no one can confirm because its sealed.... boy isn't that convienient. She breaks the story, gets all the interviews, all the face time, with a new book on the horizon.... if that doesnt smell fishy I don't know what does.

I could make some derogatory statements
but I won’t sink that low ;).
Anyway, it does seem odd to have a book on it. Wouldn’t those sources be leaked to someone other journalist by now?
Like what does that source have to gain by only helping out one person?
Definitely problematic since we personally can’t say this is legit other then the fact that SI.com seems to be reputable.

I swear
I heard ESPN confirm with their own sources after SI’s report came out, too.

Nothing New
Didn’t Fainaru-Wada and Williams pretty much do the same thing, but using the SF Chronicle and not SI? I don’t remember the exact timing, but I know the articles preceded the book…

Seems
Pretty fishy to me too. Of course whoever leaked it (even assuming it’s true) will never be investigated or held accountable for something that’s supposed to be illegal to divulge.

No doubt that
Cynthia Rodriguez contributes heavily to the new book, and is one of the four “independent” sources re: confirming the failed test.

what should SI have done?
You don’t think they should publish newsworthy stories by their reporters because they are writing books? Do you think the slumlord story is “fishy”?

a lot of reporters write books about subjects they’ve reported on. if the report was going to be in her book, it would’ve come out anyway. she just pre-empted it so as to keep her “Scoop”

I think I like “A-Roid” better.

The word is
there is a chapter questioning his sexuality.
100% serious. http://njfrogman.blogspot.com/2009/02/sports-illustrateds-selena-roberts-to.html
Oh, and there is zero chance he didnt use steroids. When he was confronted why didnt he deny it? Why is he hiding in the Bahamas? Why did his agent say “we will address this and then move on”? These are the actions of a guilty man – and he has done more that indicates his guilt. Not to mention the Canseco book.
Denial: Not just a river in Africa, A-Rod fans.

I remember
there was an entire website dedicated to the myths/stories/whatever questioning the sexuality of (I think) A-Rod, Jeter, Rivera, and Posada. I’m not sure any of that’s too valid, though..
Who's world is it? It's yours.

Having seen Posada's wife
He can’t possibly be gay.

arod cheated, whatever
but you know who committed a crime, whoever told on him, so whoever divulged that confidential information needs to either tell the rest of the 103 people or be put in jail, no one cares that arod use steriods, everyone used steroids, i care that someone paid off someone so they can make money on a book, yet only dragged the ONE person’s name through the mud that they needed to make money on their book, f’ that lady, at least be a real journalist and report the whole truth and not just what is going to make you money

That’s a whole lot of assumptions without supporting evidence. And most people care about Rodriguez cheating and lying.

alaskor
Who is your favorite team, and who are your favorite players, I’ll be sure to remind you when they end up under suspicions as well.
This is nothing to be happy about, yankee hater, arod hater or not, if you love baseball, then this is a sad day, not a joyous occasion, feel free to boo him all you want, but you should not be celebrating this moment.

It would be sad if that juicer never got exposed for who he was
The real crime would have been if we never found out his HR totals werent legit. He was making a run at GOAT at one point, and thankfully that’s gone now. Now him and Bonds can duke it out for “Best Player Ever… On Steroids.”
I should ask you: who is your favorite team?
by alskor on Feb 10, 2009 12:55 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Oh, well
If a site says that A-Rod might be gay, then I’m supposed to care because, wait, why again do I care who he sleeps with?

Sure does look fishy today huh
now who are all the A=Fraud apoligists gonna blame if they can’t rip Selena, her sources or SI.

I wrote it just before bed
but basically i still find it pretty shady, but when talking with friends, I basically expected arod to come out and admit to it within the week if not soon, as he did today.
This was one of those things, when i found out, i was like how is no one even talking about this, talk about motives to push info out that may not be fully confirmed etc.
oh well, sad day for baseball, personally I like what Jim Kaat had to say about it on MLB Network today.

enough of the media
most of us have long understood a ton of guys were dirty. At this point what I’m sick of hearing are all these fake media people like this woman, pretending they are so moral and acting like they are doing all this because it ‘has to be done’ and ‘people need to know’ and whatever other line you want to use for the fact that they think they are the morality police and they are ‘saving us’ by exposing things. The players lie about juicing the media lies about their motivation about digging around trying to bust these guys. They are all equally pathetic. Your trying to create a big story so you can get paid, so admit it and save us the holier than thou stance you all try and take.

You’re comparing ARod and his use of sophisticated designer drugs to a reporter doing nothing but reporting? Despite the name calling by Yankees and Rangers fans, I’ve yet to hear anything substantial about her doing anything unethical or even beyond normal reporting. Well, except for ARod himself who fabricated stories about her.
by Lovejoy on Feb 10, 2009 9:31 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
no comparison
Everyone knows he used and alot of people used. everyone is acting like this is a new story, this is 2003, its only a new name. This issue has been discussed ad nauseum in the past and the fact that Arod has been named doesn’t change the story, except somebody elses heros name is out there. Frankly this is a dead issue testing is in place now its as good as were going to get, we know guys were dirty and you accept that it happened and move on. There is no new story here just tabloid coverage because its ARod.
As far as her just reporting, thats a joke, when your writing a book on a guy, and you weasel your way into getting ‘Court sealed documents’ that are never supposed to see the light of day, no that is not ‘reporting’! Thats doing whatever you can do to sell a book! I hope the Union goes after her and her sources, this whole ‘leaking’ trend needs to be put an end to. You can’t argue journalistic integrity when she just happened to be writing a book on the subject that “she was just reporting on”. You can take whatever side you want but they are both shady! I don’t like Arod, and I dont’ like “reporters”, neither one of them are innocent in this whole deal.

It's ironic that in criticizing people who take holier than thou stances
you yourself take a holier than thou stance.
Selena Roberts is a reporter who broke a huge story. Yes, she did it partially to make money, partially to impress her boss, partially because she likes reporting, and partially to become famous. That’s probably pretty close to the reason most of us do anything, including every baseball player.
