A-Rod tested positive for steroids

Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids during his MVP 2003 season.  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/02/07/alex-rodriguez-steroids/?eref=sircrc

It's a matter of time till all the 03 testing names are released.

As a Mets fan, I think this fits the bill:

Cartman: [walks over to Scott's end of the table] Yes! Yesss! Oh, let me taste your tears, Scott!
[starts licking Scott's tears off his face]
Cartman: Mm, your tears are so yummy and sweet!
Kyle: Dude, I think it might be best for us to never piss Cartman off again.
Stan: Good call.
Cartman: Oh, the tears of unfathomable sadness! My-yummy!
[licks the tears off the table and off Scott's face]
Cartman: Mm-yummy, you guys!
[screen closes to Looney Tunes-style splash]
Cartman: Yuppitibut, that's all, folks!

Hilarious!

Couldnt happen to a bigger phony. Im going to have a party each year he doesnt get elected to the HOF, Big Mac style. Screw you, A-Fraud! Unbelievable!

yeah, because he probably didn’t face a ton of pitchers who also used PED’s.

Not saying you should use it just because others do, but to let’s not make him the poster boy for cheating.

by JP_Frost on Feb 7, 2009 11:42 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah.

Bonds is already that poster boy.

well

“A-Fraud” seems a lot more relevant now.

by rdf8585 on Feb 7, 2009 12:30 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

whether it's Bonds, A-Rod, Paul Byrd or Clemens

I really don’t care, with the amount of people that do use it in the league, you kind of have to use it to level the playing field.

by playingwithfire on Feb 7, 2009 12:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Problem is

high school athletes are going to make the same conclusion. Where does it stop?

by asyouwish33 on Feb 7, 2009 12:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

it stops when harsher penalties are actually hand out

instead of you know, verbal condemnation that don’t do anything.

And I’m all for forgetting the past. Say starting in 2010, anybody caught with steroid gets 25 first time, 50 second time, season third time. NO RED TAPE!

But come on, you can’t even suspend ARod on his positive test in 03, what good does this do to the league.

by playingwithfire on Feb 7, 2009 1:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The consequences are already stricter than that.

Right now its 50 games the first time, 100 the second, and at the commisioner’s discresion the third isn’t it?

by Brendan Scolari on Feb 7, 2009 3:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

nobody important ever gets caught

The process right now hardly catch all(or even most) of the offenders.

I really don’t see how treading in the past help the issue of HS athletes.

I mean the first time a Pujols or Jeter or ARod gets suspended 50 games for a current infraction, I think other athletes will learn.

by playingwithfire on Feb 7, 2009 5:07 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Oh well yeah

but the problem is they don’t get caught, how do you change that?

by Brendan Scolari on Feb 7, 2009 5:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

stricter, less random

testings.

I know the test is expensive. But it’s not like the MLB is the NHL and don’t have money.

and if the good players can get away with it with better stuff, well, just more power to them. But even if a fair amount of mid tier guys get caught, it should be enough warning, since college and HS guys can’t really afford the best stuff.

hopefully, not with you. Go a head and take some! In fact, take too much!

I'm not sure what this means

I simply think this is unfortunate for kids who think this is the best way to get to the bigs.

by asyouwish33 on Feb 7, 2009 10:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

It just doesn’t matter to me too much at this point. They all used it, so whatever.

by Brendan Scolari on Feb 7, 2009 3:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

A-Rod, Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Sosa, and Palmerio will never see the HOF

I talked to people down in cooperstown and they think Clemens is fucked, Bonds has no shot. They love Jeter and Ramirez down there, and they love Joba a ton. This makes Greg Maddux and Pujols(barring him being on the report) as the two best players in the last 50 years.

people in cooperstown

are talking about Joba Chamberlain?

Keep in mind that this an unconfirmable report

4 unnamed sources, no other news source has this info, they are all reporting SI’s article.

We don’t know how many years he did steroids, or even how often, or even if he really did, part of the problem with steroid testing is that it gets a lot of false positives, and that generally someone who tests positive for a drug, has to be re-tested to make sure its not a false positive.

But basically if you can put Arod and Steroids together in an article, you know your gonna make a crapload of money……

As Bob Costas pointed out Arod’s rights as a Union Member and more importantly as an American Citizen have been completely thrown out the window, probably because some clerk realized he could make some money selling this information to a magazine.

The word is

there is a chapter questioning his sexuality.

100% serious. http://njfrogman.blogspot.com/2009/02/sports-illustrateds-selena-roberts-to.html

Oh, and there is zero chance he didnt use steroids. When he was confronted why didnt he deny it? Why is he hiding in the Bahamas? Why did his agent say "we will address this and then move on"? These are the actions of a guilty man – and he has done more that indicates his guilt. Not to mention the Canseco book.

Denial: Not just a river in Africa, A-Rod fans.

It sure matters to me

Those of you who say it doesn’t matter…are you real baseball fans? The records are extremely important in baseball. Hallowed, most would say.

What’s the landscape going to be in a few decades, with all these steroid results?

The big thing for me now, is why the hell were these tests private anyhow? If they get a DUI, is that private? You cannot relate it to other privacy things like drug testing. Steroids are cheating, plain and simple. All these results should have been public. Or, should be made public now. These guys get paid a ton of money to not be phoney cheaters.

And, we need to get HGH blood testing immediately. Anyone with half a brain and some money won’t get caught with the current testing. If anyone thinks the current testing is preventing anything, they are being foolish. With the money they make, and no testing, where’s the prevention from using HGH? Or whatever the newest thing is, that’s ahead of the testing.

Only after all these guys careers are ruined, and we clean the slate of all these cheaters, then maybe the youth will see it’s not worth it. The mindset needs to change, and it’s going to be a long road.

Its really pretty horrific

that major league baseball can’t even keep track of their supposedly anonymous tests. I love what Selig has done on the field, but the way he has handled this is spectacularly bad.

Also, considering how many people are/were using steroids (I’d say upwards of 50% if I’m going to throw out an arbitrary figure) he was still considerably better than all of them, and that is why he’ll deserve in the hall of fame, and does even if he retires today.

by Navi's_Navy on Feb 7, 2009 10:26 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

What?

So Selig is the bad guy here? Arod used Steroids. He’s the scumbag here. Somebody else(well, four people) did wrong by releasing this info, but what they did and whatever Bud Selig did pales in comparison to what ARod did.

by alskor on Feb 8, 2009 3:26 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

YES

everyone has always blamed selig for looking the other way, is this the first time you’ve heard that argument, he probably took them too to be a better commissioner, shit, everyone else was, haha

by IHateMitchMustain on Feb 8, 2009 12:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Not blaming Selig but...

Why does it take 5.5 years for this news to come out?!? Geez… why not just let him break the record first and then tell us how guilty he is. ;-) Feels like that’s what they did with Bonds.

Please tell me this issue is isolated to these old 2003 tests. I don’t want to wait until 2014 to find out if someone tested positive last season.

by DavidFoss on Feb 8, 2009 12:37 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Selig

For the most part, I don’t care anymore. I learned a long time ago that I don’t know these people so I don’t idolize them. Let’s not blame Selig for not publishing results though.

The 2003 test was supposed to be 100% anonymous and when you strike a deal with the union, you stick with it. Period. Selig did not – and should not – have released results. He is not to blame for the fact that the positive test was not released for over 5 years.

by count sutton on Feb 8, 2009 7:03 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Arod used steriods

This is NOT fact right now. All we have are unconfirmed reports that he tested positive for a banned substance back in 2003. But let’s make the slight stretch that those reports are in fact true.

Do we really know he took steriods? No. How do we know that maybe he took an over the counter substance anyone can buy at GNC that is now banned by MLB because it can show up in tests like steriods (Andro being a good example from 2003).

IMO, we have a rumor that perhaps he took steroids. Until more facts come to light though, it’s only a rumor. And it completely disgusts me that all the talk shows and newspapers are already asking for A-Rod to come out and apologize for his usage. What if he actually has nothing to apologize for?

Seems to me our society has learned nothing over the last 400 years. Someone starts a rumor that A-Rod is a witch, and the next thing you know he is being burned at the stake.

Good point...

but from what I’ve seen they were 2 types of anabolic/designer variety. I agree – much more needs to be established before getting too crazy here. Hell, I’m not going to get crazy at all… I could give two shits about baseball players using at this point – especially when it was 6 years ago!

Amen

This is just part of the hoist them up so you can tear them down way of doing things in our society. Sick of it and all the hand-wringing associated with all of this stuff. Another baseball player took roids – shocker. I don’t understand the need to act like an audience member of TRL everytime this happens.

Maybe you aren't all hypocrites...

but who will join me in saying that I’d do a few cycles of steroids if it meant millions of dollars? And if I can say that I would do it, who am I to say its wrong?

I agree - Noonan is as valuable as a dead horse… and he too should be beaten by some dude in a top hat who looks like he’s holding his junk.

by cool hand Charlie on Feb 9, 2009 12:18 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Meh...

it’s not like he wasn’t going to make more than he’d ever spend anyway. It’s not like we’re talking about the difference between a 4A player and a middle tier MLB’er. ARod was great since his teen years. If I was ARod – I would NOT feel a need to juice. If I was that 4A player looking to break through to the bigs – I aint gonna lie – I’d be a juicin’ SOB.

Wait.. wha...??

But all the Yankee fans on here and around the net told me this female reporter was probably making it up… it was so fishy that she had four unnamed sources! What about the other 103 players?? This was a witch hunt!

Oh no, wait, he actually did use steroids. Never mind.
