Marlins Top 50 Prospects w/ Writeups
So each year I do a Marlins Top 50 prospects with writeups over at FutureFish.org. Figured there are some Marlins fans over here, or just some people that want more info on their lower level prospects. This is from info I have taken from scouts, execs, my own personal notes, as well as the mainstream stuff. Anyway, enjoy.

apparently I'm an idiot
and linked Cam’s report with Logan’s…
I probably did this with a few writeups as I was doing it in a hurry… sorry in advance

makes me jealous that the #5 overall pick last year who hasnt really disappointed...
is #8 on their list while my team, the royals has the #3 pick, who didnt really play at all at either 1 or 2 on every list

Hosmer
is an elite talent though I am sure on this list he would rank around 5 and based on the grades Hosmer(B+) would rank 3rd only behind Morrison and Maybin who are both an A-(I am assuming he would be above Dominguez(B+) as John had him[Hosmer] as an A- before he dropped him to a B+)
Very good write up
It is always interesting to hear about some of the lesser prospects of organisations which are hard to keep track of.
I am a big fan of Raynor right now. He was a great pick up in the draft as a college senior. With the high OBP, decent ISO, and great baserunning ability he could really make a great leadoff or possibly even good #2 hitter. I think he should at least make it as a 4th outfielder, with the chance to be a very good regular if he keeps his contact rates and OBP up while not letting the K % raise. It is good to hear from your report that he is good defensively in the outfield.
Just one question, is Raynor a CF or corner OF and does how does he rate defensively in these positions.

No Brett Carroll?
I know he’s not special, but looks like he can at least be a 4th OF.
The Dodgers won't win a playoff series until the Cool-a-Coo returns.

I love that guy, last year had him in the top 30… but I figured with age, his inability to hit ML pitching (small sample size of 60 at bats or so, but he’s looked terrible) and his recurring injuries, I just figured it was best he was left out

Morrison Over Stanton?
I’ve seen a lot of reports that put Stanton before Morrison. Why did you go with Morrison? Position included, I think Stanton is more valuable with the numbers he put up last year.
Logan
Marlins prospects have a rough time in Jupiter (Florida State League). They don’t hit for average and they certainly don’t hit for power. Over the past few seasons or more, many players have had huge seasons in Greensboro (High A) and once they get to Jupiter, they can’t hit a beach ball.
The best season in Jupiter before Logan’s would probably be Jeremy Hermida (age 20) hitting .297/.377/.441 in 340ab. Prospects just can’t do anything in that ballpark.
Also, Morrison absolutely ripped apart the AFL and add to the fact that he played some corner outfield, in the end that pushed him over the top for me. I have just been weary about monster seasons by Greensboro prospects in the past.

+1/-1
Jupiter is definitely one of the worst hitters parks in the majors, and what Logan did was absolutely amazing given the park conditions.
That being said, you also have to remember Stanton’s home/road splits were quite impressive. Greensboro is very much a hitters park, but he also put up monster numbers are more neutral parks too (unlike Dominguez, who really struggled on the road).
Those two are very close in terms of prospect status though. I can definitely see both sides to the argument.
Another Warning Sign
Over 26% of the fly balls Stanton hit last year went for home runs. Not even Ryan Howard has a rate that high. He’ll be lucky to have half that percentage in the future. Isn’t 10% considered average?
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

i totally agree with you
Stanton is impressive, but has far more question marks… Morrison’s season leaves pretty much nothing to be desired. he did everything you could have hoped for. FSL MVP
-1
Morrison might be more complete now, but he’s also a first baseman. Stanton is currently playing CF, and will probably move over to become a very good defensive outfielder. Their bats are comparable – Stanton has more offensive upside, Morrison has a little less power but fewer question marks – break the tie on age, position, and defensive value. Stanton for the win.
Stanton plays
right field not center field, but right now I would take Morrison over Stanton even if Stanton has the higher upside
Nice list
Appreciate the time an effort.
I think blake brewer and edgar olmos can make a nice little jump this year into the top 20
#13 Hand
Is a player I’ll definitely be following as I got to see him play a number of times last year. It will be interesting to see how one of the best players from MN in recent memory fares right out of high school. He had a schollie offer waiting at Arizona State if that says anything about what his worth was.

IMO he has a little Ron Mahay in him if he further develops the changeup. got to see him a good amount last year and he seems very similar.

?
Have you seen all these players play? I’m just wondering how you have all this scouting information without citing sources.

I have seen more than half these players
whether it be in HS, college, spring training or when they play down in Florida
everyone else I have on DVD which I get from various teams at some point each season

Raynor
seems awfully low but he’s one of my favourite prospects

question
There was some brief talk over the winter about a Max Ramirez for Ryan Tucker trade. Would Marlin fans be happy with that?
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
I think so
we could use another catcher (even if he eventually moves off the position)
