Zach Collier vs Isaac Galloway

Both struggled out of the gate in A-ball.  Both outfielders are projected as 5-tool guys with lots of untapped potential.  Galloway surprised people by taking fewer $$$ to sign with Florida in the 8th round.  Some have viewed this as a sign that he didnt want to get shown up at college and hurt himself down the road.  Collier was a supplemental first rounder but Im not sure that he was considering college at that time.  From what I heard Collier looks more ready but maybe Galloway has more upside.  Who would you rather have for future fantasy purposes?

No one here has any real idea yet

They were both HS draftees so, beyond maybe a few vid clips or something, most of us have never seen either one play and almost certainly none of us have seen both play since they hail from opposite ends of the country(maybe someone here was lucky to see some HS showcase, but I doubt it).

The stats at this point mean only the slightest bit more than nothing.

Basically, just look at whatever reputable direct scouting reports (ie, quotes from scouts or info gleaned from scouts or personal observations, like BA often does, and not just some other internet expert wanna be summing up what hes heard and passing it along as "analysis") you can find and make the call for yourself. Your idea is as good as any ones.

do you realize?

that both of these guys are SOOOOOOO far away. i don’t see how anyone can even determine which player they’d rather have at this point. and saying that they ‘struggled right out of the gate’ is a bogus comment as well. guys with tools galore most likely will struggle. how about you let them play in a full-season league and then decide which one you’d rather have.

thanks for the comments. i know that there are some people that actually HAVE seen these guys and plenty of people with intimate knowledge of the HS/minor leagues. it seems that the opinion is fairly split on these guys, so Ill probably just pick one…its for like the 300th pick in the amateur draft. also considering some college outfielders.

Stats...

are pretty much irrelevant at this point, but I wouldn’t say Collier struggled last year. He was only 17, and held his own statistically, with an OPS 17 points above league average for the GCL.

yeah i guess thats right and i wouldnt expect either to exactly dominate right out of high school. i could have phrased that better

Collier

I would go with Collier. Galloway is more advanced at this stage in the game, but Collier’s got much more upside, IMO. Galloway’s package isn’t terrible by any means, but his projection is more limited than Collier’s, though he is more advanced now. If you’re happy with Galloway’s current skillset, I’d take him, but Collier’s ceiling is higher, IMO.

I don't see any justification for this

have you seen either play?

From what I’ve heard Galloway is more 5-toolsy but rawer.

Its a tossup at this point anyway
