Deep prospects for last rounds of MILB draft?

Hey all, first post here.  Considering drafting some of the recent international signings in rounds 18,19,20 of our 14 team MILB draft.

Im looking at:

OF Eduard Sosa

OF Kelvin DeLeon

OF Juan Duran

OF Yorman Rodriguez

OF Rafael Rodriguez

SS Hak-Ju Lee

Im not sure if anyone has ideas on ranking these guys?  I think Sosa is probably the top guy right now but all of them are so raw...its hard to judge.

Also considering OF Zach Collier (Phi), 3B Austin Gallagher (LAD), SS Ryan Flaherty (Cubs), 3B Juan Francisco (Cin), SS/RHP Mychal Givens (HS),

Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

sosa i guess

but i sort of like hak-ju lee. he plays a premium position. i did a TON of research on him to prepare for my dynasty draft and i think he is the real deal. i tried to avoid projects. and those other guys on your list are complete projects. it’s boom or bust with them. you can draft them i guess. but i would take a pass. i find it hard to believe that there aren’t other proven guys still on the board. throw some other names at me.

What do you mean by real deal?

Potential star, good major league player? I know very little (read:nothing) about him

He's been called

Tim Beckham, Lite. So imagine Tim Beckham with every tool slightly dinged. I don’t know that I would call him “the real deal” but he is certainly a worthy prospect. John gave him a B- which is pretty high praise for an international signee.

will you expand on him?

ive never herad of him

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

RE

A lot of scouts thought Lee would have been the second HS SS taken after Beckham if he was draft-eligible. He’s really fast, displayed very good defensive skills, makes good contact, and could be a decent power hitter.

His main questions are how he’ll recover from Tommy John Surgery, how he’ll adjust to life in the United States, and whether he’ll ever develop much power. I’m personally curious to see if the Cubs try to build up his patience and awareness of the strike zone.

At his best, he could be a future All Star SS. The odds of him reaching his ceiling are unknown, though.

Some other available names. We are at pick 250 or so right now, with college and high school players eligible so the big names there have gone

Oscar Tejada, SS Boston
Blake Beaven, P Texas
Adrian Alaniz, P washington
Eliecer Navarro, P Pittsburgh
Nick Noonan, 2B San Francisco
Roger Kieschnick, OF San Francisco
Cedric Hunter, OF San Diego
Eric Campbell, 3B Atlanta
Juan Francisco, 3B Cincinatti
John Jay, OF St Louis
Vincent Mazzarro, SP Oakland
Wes Hodges, 3B Cleveland
Will Inman, P San Diego
Trevor Crowe, OF Cleveland
Mitch Talbot, P Tampa Bay
Sean West, P Florida
Danny Valencia, 3B Minnesota
Vinny Mazzaro, P Oakland
Tanner Scheppers, P Indie
Anthony Hewitt, SS Philadelphia

Bobby Borchering, 3B/1B HS
Mychal Givens, SS/RHP HS
Mike Minor, P Vanderbilt
Kendall Volz, P Baylor
Gerrit Cole, P UCLA
DJ Lemahieu, SS LSU
 and more of that ilk.

SO, Im leaning towards Juan Francisco, an outfielder and a pitcher, but really Im not sold on anyone. My current minor league roster is:

C – Matt Wieters, Austin Maddox (HS)
1B – Yonder Alonso, Beau Mills
MI – Reese Havens, Derek Dietrich (Georgia Tech)
3B – Matt Davidson (HS)
OF – Greg Halman, Kellen Kulbacki, Julio Borbon, Desmond Jennings
P – Phillippe Aumont, Michael Main, Martin Perez, Michael Inoa, Danny Duffy, Derek Holland

Grab Sean West....

West could arguably be top 100 now that it looks like he’s healthy. Could come quick.

Nick Noonan would be a good addition for your infield.

Yeah

West stood out to me too

take west or noonan

i would actually take noonan simply because of the scarcity of good MIF. i’d take noonan over lee. and i think the majority on this site would agree.

Be advised that Blevan is

back to the middle 90’s on his fastball velocity during Instructs as well. So if he fell this far because of his K rate and Velocity, he would be worth a flier.

Depending on how deep your draft is, I would take a few late fliers on some of the DSL all-stars. They were the mid tier LA prospects from a year or two ago that now have some professional a bats.

Instructs this year

according to several different sources. It might be becasue he was throwing shorter stints, but his complete lost of velocity is very exaggerated.

Talk to zywicka or Jparks or “the Newberg”. All had reports of his Velocity returning during instructs. That or

Q: Scott from Irving, TX asks:
Any reason given to why Blake Beavan’s velocity dropped a bit last year?
 A:

Aaron Fitt: Part of it had to do with his delivery. The Rangers tinkered with it some this year, trying to get him to throw more downhill and not drop his arm slot, and it took him some time to get comfortable with the adjustment. It was also a matter of building up strength to endure a full season. He added 15 pounds by the end of instructional league, and the Rangers saw him climb back into the 93-95 range during short stints this fall. Really, it was a great season for Beavan to learn how to pitch and succeed without his best stuff — the Rangers were very pleased with his development, particularly his increased maturity. Nobody in the organization is particularly worried that his velocity won’t come back.

From BA’s top 10 chat with Aaron Fitt, where Beaven is 12th.

Mazzaro

I’d definitely go with him. He’s done excellently at AA. There are a lot of question marks left, of course, but he has a decent shot of being very good

My vote...

D.J. Lamahieu – he’s been climbing draft boards and offers a good bat at the SS position. Mike Minor is another good option. I’m a big fan of taking projected first-rounders – those guys are WAY closer to being impact players than any of the minor league guys you listed.

My opinion

From those you have listed at the top, these are the top guys:

Collier
Flaherty
Lee
Rafael/Yorman (pick your poison)

I have fairly strong doubts about the rest of those guys.

I took a shot ranking them a few weeks ago...

http://www.prospecttube.com/forum/topics/top-five-minor-league-hitters

Born in 1991

1. Wilmer Flores (A) – http://www.prospecttube.com/video/wilmer-flores
2. Eduardo Sosa (Rk)
3. Jefry Marte (Rk) – http://www.prospecttube.com/video/jefry-marte
4. Eduardo Soto (Rk)
5. Juan Duran (Rk) – http://www.prospecttube.com/video/juan-duran

Flores is the only player in this group that played above rookie ball, and based on scouting reports, sounds like the real deal. Sosa, Marte, and Soto all had impressive DSL showings, combined with solid reports from scouts. Duran is the big bonus baby, but struggled in his professional debut. A lot can happen (or not happen) with 17-year-olds, so this list could make me look like a genius or a fool in 12 months.
