Tim Beckham's Value as a Fantasy Player
I'm wondering what the community thinks about the value that Tim Beckham will have as a fantasy shortstop when he reaches the majors. I am fairly certain that he will be a 300 hitter, but am unsure about his power and speed. The scouting reports say that as he grows stronger he will develop power. He also did not steal a whole lot of bases in the minors but he certainly looks like he can run fast
So what do you guys think, will Beckham be a 20+ home run hitter in the majors? How many bases will he steal?

.290-.310, 15-20 HR, 30+ SBs

fairly certain
How could you possibly be certain that he will be a .300 hitter?

hmmm
he has very quick wrists. he is very athletic, has all the intangibles, and the Rays know how to pick a high school ballplayer.
I’m pretty certain he will develop at least 20+ hr power.
SB, not so sure… the Rays do run a lot though… I’m sure in his younger years he’ll be capable of 20+ SBs, and like most players, I’m sure he’ll add more power and run less as he matures.
I like the Barry Larkin comp someone mentioned a while ago. he looks like a Larkin-Soriano hybrid to me. Larkin did hit 33 homers one year, but his next highest total was only 20, and aside from those 2 seasons he never hit 20+. I think Beckham could do better than that. well probably around the same peak, but more consistently in the 20s. Larkin on the basepaths = 30-50 when healthy. I think Beckham will be more 20-35.

No one knows.
No one can be fairly certain about anything with him. I wouldn’t even be fairly certain that he passes AA at this point. He is a long ways off and everything about his skills is just conjecture. He certainly has tools, but prospecting history is full of players who had tools and never did anything with them. We can’t even be sure that he stays at SS. He may end up as a 1B or corner OF (like Joel Guzman and Gary Sheffield, who were both shortstops in the minors).
It’s way, way too early to speculate on what kind of player he will be.

Reasonable best case scenario
Is a Barry Larkin/Jimmy Rollins type hitter. Probably not as many steals as Rollins, but has the potential to make it up in other areas.
He’s a long ways away, but I doubt that he has a Gary Sheffield/Chipper Jones type career path based on his tools. If he moves, it will probably be to 2B or CF, unless he has a late growth spurt that takes away some of his quickness.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
