Wow

Really good draft this year

You’re name has 2k9 in it — what are you some 8 year-old who makes Pillsbury Doughboy cookies and jerks off to that bullshit video game with Tim Lincecum on the cover--

eh, pollock at 3?

don’t like that ranking. not a surprise, considering how ba ranks, but i don’t like it.

Top 10

It seems the subscription version has omitted Schlereth. Everyone moves up a spot and Davidson goes on at #10.

This is a weak system. I like some of the guys on here (Parker, Borchering, Owings, Wheeler, Krauss), but they’re ranked a lot higher than they would in an average system.

I like Pollock. I’d have probably #2, but yeah, this is a weak system.

Lots of interesting guys

That are a long way away from contributing.

I think Brandon Allen is a bit underrated. I can see him being a useful 1B.

Except for Parker...

And Allen…

And Schlereth…

It's a good draft when your 5th rounder is #8 on this list.

It’s also a sign of a bad system. But I really think they hit on their picks this year. I want to see where Eric Smith is when their book comes out.

Marc Krauss

Andy what do you think about Krauss – sounds like they think he could be fast tracked

by thebroman on Dec 9, 2009 9:19 PM EST up reply actions

He can hit.

Not many people argue about that. I have to wonder if he’ll be useful at all on defense. He could be Adam Dunn-like on defense.

by Andy Seiler on Dec 9, 2009 10:54 PM EST up reply actions

Krauss doesn't get enough credit for his athleticism.

He was an all-state wide receiver in high school, and I’m not sure that he’s as slow of a runner as the scouting report leads one to believe (it says “below-average”, but he might actually be average or fringe-average). I think he has a chance to become a fringe-average defender in right field, and if that doesn’t work out for him, then an above-average defender in left.

Ryan Wheeler

I’m wondering why Wheeler is so low. Based on the numbers it seems as though he outperformed krauss & pollock by a mile.

He’s a big kid with terrific plate discipline. What’s not to like?

I heard Tim Lincecum will win 1 Cy Young & 11 Tim Lincecums. Question is, how many Cole Hamels will he win?

by the pinstripes on Dec 9, 2009 8:42 PM EST reply actions

The track record.

He wasn’t incredible in college, and he’s got no secondary skills behind the bat.

by Andy Seiler on Dec 9, 2009 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

Bat looks very impressive though

it's not?

I know that you take a rather amateur-centric POV . . .but the guy had a .977 OPS in 232 college ABs this year and then had a higher OPS . . .in more pro ABs this year (263). He only turned 21 in July, so he’s pretty young too.

I mean, maybe it’s just me, but any guy who puts up 300 ABs of 1.000+ OPS performance has certainly earned the “impressive” label in my eyes.

by mrkupe on Dec 11, 2009 12:36 AM EST up reply actions

His eye is what made his bat impressive in pro ball.

He’s got good potential to be a good pro hitter, but you’ll see a good shift when he hits AA and AAA. Once there are pitchers that know how to pitch to him, his lack of refinement will come back to bite him. That’s not to say he won’t improve by then, but I’m just saying that crazy pro debut isn’t backed up by much of anything in the past besides a high BABIP and a good eye. That good eye will serve him well, but his current bat isn’t as good as his pro debut numbers suggest.

by Andy Seiler on Dec 11, 2009 7:26 AM EST up reply actions

Brandon Allen

So what’s the prediction for him now? He’s run the gamut on projections. Any comparisons left? Massive athlete with superb power and inconsistent bat who makes a good first impression but then gets too comfortable doing what’s least expected of him? And does anyone besides Bill James think he will approach double digit steals? I know he’s athletic (and I heard he was making some explosive contact in the AFL) which is why I’m so curious about his ceiling and expectations.
