Taylor or Brown

Being a Jays fan and knowing the Phillies are interested in a potential Doc Halladay trade I am wondering which OF prospect the Jays should target from the Phillies.  Michael Taylor or Dominic Brown.

My questions surrounding the two are more about their defensive abilities, which OF spot would either likley play at the ML level?  The Jays are in need of either a CF or RF and absolutely do not need another LF at this point.  Also, it seems Taylor is closer to the bigs and put up huge stats last year, what is the major knock on him?  is he an elite talent?  Brown is a litte farther away it seems but also put up great stats last year, again what is the knock on him?

Thanks for your knowledge!

Brown profiles better in RF.

It sounds like Taylor is best-suited to left field, but isn’t totally out of place in right, whereas Brown has all the tools to become a very good right fielder (though he still needs work on his reads and routes).

They’re both elite talents, but I’d prefer Brown because his ceiling seems a little higher. That being said, I don’t see many scenarios in which the Phillies are actually interested in Halladay at this point; I think that ship has sailed.

Well...

the scenario i saw was that the Phils deal Blanton to open up room for Doc…unlikely to happen but you never know.

I read a Blanton for Morrow deal

With a low level prospect thrown in. If that happened and the Phils could turn it around and send Morrow, UNK low level guy, Taylor/Drabek to Toronto for Doc. I’d have those guys on planes before they knew what hit ’em.

I’ve read some questions about Brown’s power. He’s a line drive hitter, and his power is somewhat projected at this point. It’s assumed some of those line drives will start clearing fences more often. Even if they don’t his other tools/skills more than offset a 20 HR ceiling (if that’s the case).

well

Is the Phillies want Doc, they would probably need to include both. Assuming Drabek is untouchable.

I’m honestly fascinated to see what kind of return the Blue Jays are going to get for Halladay.

The prime time to deal him was last trade deadline, when an acquiring club could have gotten two playoff runs out of him without ponying up for an extension. I think Ricciardi got completely flummoxed when the Phillies pulled an about face and dealt for Cliff Lee, and now Toronto finds itself in the same position as Minnesota in the 2007-08 offseason.

As far as I’m seeing, the Phillies’ counteroffer of Taylor, Happ, Carrasco, and Donald was the best offer the Blue Jays got, so I’d consider that the measuring stick for whatever their return is this time around.

I don't think anyone's topping that offer

We don’t see teams overpay in terms of prospects anymore.

Tough Call

I tend to agree with the above. Taylor is closer, but Brown has a higher upside i think. It doesn’t look like the Jays are going to be competitive in the next year or two so do you take the guy closer with higher floor or go with the guy farther away with a higher ceiling? If they want to be competitive in 3yrs I’d go Taylor, otherwise, I’d go Brown.

What I do know is that both would be welcome editions to the KC Royals any time!

Grienke would look great in red pinstripes.
