Royals sign LHP Noel Arguelles?

Jeff Passan, Bob Dutton, and Kiley McDaniel all reporting that the deal is done or close to completion. 5 years/7 million with some incentives that can make the deal 9 million, probably based on how quickly he reaches the Majors.

Arguelles is likely to start in Class A, allowing for an adjustment period to the professional game after a year of inactivity. His 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame impressed scouts, who excused a slight drop in fastball velocity because Arguelles’ arm strength isn’t quite at full strength. His curveball and changeup rate as potential plus pitches, according to a scout who saw the workout.

B/B-

For me, Crow and Montgomery are easily ahead. Sounds like Arguelles has a higher ceiling than either Duffy or Melville, but I’d put those two ahead due to track record. I’m really not sure what I think on Moustakas these days, but sure, I can buy putting him ahead of Arguelles. I’d probably lump him in that Myers/Hosmer area, so somewhere from 6-8.

I agree.

B/B- sounds about right. We just need to see him play…. These Cuban guys are always such wildcards, Dayan Viciedo had trouble adjusting.

anyone got a DOB on arguelles?

nice signing by the royals……they are certainly collecting a nice group of young arms between him, montgomery, crow, melville, etc.

building a real nice collection of young LHP prospects

Montgomery, Duffy, Lamb, Dwyer, and now Arguelles.

i have Duffy, Lamb, and Dwyer tentatively ranked 7-8-9, respectively, and I think the new guy fits right in that area.

baseball rules.

so i take it no one has even a "reported" dob

it’s getting bad when you can’t even get the fake birthday!

We're talking about the Royals here.

He’ll turn out to be 29.

Yeah.

He won’t turn out to be 29. He’ll turn out to be 19, but a position player who doesn’t draw any walks.

And he'll end up being dealt to the Braves

For a washed up player.

Arguelles's ceiling sounds like it could be high

Going only from what I have read, if Arguelles was an American ready for the 2010 draft, he would be a mid first rounder to a top 10 pick. In looking at the Royals prospect list, I’d put him ahead of Rosa, Lough, Dwyer and Parraz. Arguelles would fit right into the category with Melville.

Agreed with KC’s strength of LH starters – Montgomery, Duffy, Lamb, Dwyer and Arguelles are a good group. Teamed with Crow and Melville, KC’s young pitchers will be a fun group to watch in 2010. Other pitchers with some potential include Tyler Sample, Carlos Fortuna and Keaton Hayenga.
