Chicago White Sox Organization Discussion
I'm now working on the Padres. The next team on the list is the Chicago White Sox, probably followed by the St. Louis Cardinals then the Boston Red Sox, though that schedule may change.
Use this thread to discuss White Sox prospects. As always, pay particular attention to any sleepers that you think I might miss.

Miguel Gonzalez played well in rookie ball as an 18 year old
Former shortstop Sergio Santos has a fastball averaging in the upper 90’s, I believe, despite getting smacked around he could have value.
David Holmberg and Kyle Bellamy are solid sleepers from this year’s draft.
Winston - Salem, Kannapolis
Got to see a lot of these teams this year – even a good deal of batting practice. Joe McEwing and Ernie Young have bright futures. They work their players hard and usefully in practice. I saw very little wasted time in BP. So don’t be surprised if the White Sox produce some unexpected talent in the coming years. This type of coaching pays off. I’m not a Sox fan, but I really have been impressed with their minor league system of coaches. Wish the Cardinals would pay attention to this.
Jordan Danks – saw him just a little this year, but a great athlete.
Brent Morel – will provide solid time at third or maybe first for some team. Good hitter, runner, fielder, arm, – very solid, knows the game well – he may not stay in the Chisox system but he’ll be a solid contributor for someone at the major league level
Dan Hudson – one of the best pitchers I saw all year – I saw him pitch in the SAL and Carolina Lgs. – great movement, knew when to throw the right pitches and set up hitters, very poised – just a solid pitcher
Jared Mitchell – of course he’ll make the list, but I never got to see him play because of injuries. Talked to him some – good kid, very excited to be playing baseball.
Josh Phegley – looked good behind the plate and handled young pitchers well – showed some power – will be interesting to see him play all season
Justin Greene – looked good in Kannapolis – great speed, good bat, good fielder – didn’t look good at all in Winston – good OF play, but looked lost at the plate.
Jon Gilmore may show up on some lists, but I don’t see it. I was actually surprised when I looked at his numbers at the plate – I didn’t think he hit as well as he ended up.
Jim Gallgher – he may never get a shot at the majors, but he has nice hands and is an excellent fielder at first – probably won’t have the bat to make it – but he’s one of these that might surprise if he gets the right coaching. honorable mention maybe
Dale Mollenhauer – see above. But Dale has a pretty good bat. He reminded me a lot of McEwing when he was a player (I saw McEwing play in Memphis) – he hustled and played the game right. Dale really slumped down the stretch though – I think the rigors of the season got to him. I think he could be a sleeper though. Not sure I’d put him in the top 20, but he’s one of these guys that could have a major league career as a utility guy.
workhorse pitchers – Johnnie Lowe, Anthony Carter, Charlie Shriek, Charlie Leesman and Justin Edwards – these guys gave a good outing evertime they pitched – someone could materialize into a decent major league career here.
Nate Jones – good stuff, but a bit of a head case. A few of the Chisox scouts I talked to liked him but said the same thing. Just someone to keep an eye on.
does anyone know if...
Jim Gallagher is the son of former major leager Dave Gallagher? I know Dave was involved with the Sox and was hoping someone knew…
I agree on your asessment of Jim – great glove but not sure if the bat will be there. He hit well in a small showing at Bham.
According to Duke’s website his father is Jim Gallagher of Pittsburgh.

He told me he’s a Carolina fan so he does have redeeming qualities.

I'm curious what you thought of Kannapolis closer Dan Remenowski.
He was signed as an undrafted free agent but put up great numbers last year.
piss up a rope fuckstick ...................by hoodlight
I’m not sure I ever saw him pitch. I attended about 10 Kannapolis games and left about the 7th inning for most of them. So mostly I saw starters and position players. I don’t recall him coming into a game I saw. But I did notice Remenowski’s numbers were very nice.

Remenowsky..
was not a true NDFA. His contract was purchased from Windy City of the Frontier League.
Gregory Infante
How did he look? Started off like gangbusters then seemed a bit more pedestrian in performance. Supposed to have pretty solid stuff.

If he can develop that changeup into at least an average pitch we could be looking at a #3 starter in a few years. Really nice sleeper.

I don't expect him to be on the list
But I’ve always been a big Kyle Bellamy fan. Nice deceptive delivery – could have a long career as a middle reliever.

My two
I’m very intersted to see where Jordan Danks ends up. I’ve had him high on my list for awhile but his numbers don’t seem to be justifying it.
Also, sort of interested in what’s up with Daniel Hudson. He isn’t high on my list, but some other sites out there have him as a top 5 pitching prospect in baseball.
Those are the 2 I’m most curious about. Other than those 2; Jared Mitchell, Jack Egbert, Brandon Allen, Dayan Viciedo, John Shelby, John Ely, Brent Morel, Nevin Griffith, and Brandon Hynick.
what?
Where’d they go? That kinda stinks. The CWS system already was fairly depleted…take those 2 off the list and it certainly doesn’t look any better.
allen was traded to the dbacks for tony pena
Egbert was claimed off waivers by the Mets

allen was thrown away for nothing
See, this is what happens when the Sox bunt.
Discord is sown. Brother fights brother. Misunderstandings abound.

possibly
I’m waiting to see how this season goes for Pena before passing judgement…What can I say? I trust in Cooper
-Jeeves Life in the Cell
oh theres a good chance he wouldn't have worked out
but you would think his prospect value would have to garner something more than Pena

Hudson
Dan Hudson started in low A Kannapolis and pitched at all 4 minor league levels before ending up with a cup of coffee for the Chisox. He performed well at every level of the minors. He could arguably be one of the top 5 pitching prospects in baseball. This guy knows how to pitch – his stuff isn’t overpowering, but it moves. He was as good as any other top pitching prospects I saw in the Car LG & SAL this year – Matusz, Britton, Duffy, Weiland, Lyles.
Trayce Thompson
I don’t understand the hype on the kid. I’ve even heard a Mike Stanton tag thrown on him. I saw the kid play in numerous showcases and he is extremely raw and didn’t show a whole lot of baseball aptitude. On the plus side he is athletic for a tall and gangly kid. He also has a frame that could easily get to 230 or more pounds, but the hype he has gotten is unwarrented IMO.
I know its all about his tools and possible projection, but at the exact same showcases I saw a kid nmaed Austin Wilson that is even bigger than Thompson, younger (2010 grad), just as athletic but with more raw power and arm strength, plus more baseball aptitude and he hardly gets mentioned
+1
Wilson is likely a top three HS OF for 2010. As always, Andy knows his stuff.

Christian Marrero
Older brother of Former Nats 1st round pick Chris Marrero. He is 22 in AA so not too old. Has been putting up solid numbers and I think should be considered
