Drabek vs Hudson vs Hellickson
Kyle Drabek (Born 1987) - 3.19 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 158 IP, 150 K, 50 BB, 1.00 G/F (A+/AA)
Daniel Hudson (Born 1987) - 2.32 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 147.1 IP, 166 K, 34 BB, 0.86 G/F (A-/A+/AA/AAA)
Jeremy Hellickson (Born 1987) - 2.45 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 114 IP, 132 K, 29 BB, 0.77 G/F (AA/AAA)
Who do you believe is the better pitching prospect and why?
Despite Hudson and Hellickson putting up better numbers at higher levels, I still believe Drabek probably belongs at the top of the list for these 3 guys. It's very impressive that he has been able to perform so well so soon after returning from Tommy John surgery. What sets Drabek a part from the others is that he has a wipeout strikeout pitch (curve). The thing that I really like about Hellickson is the way he goes after and attacks hitters. He pounds the strikezone with his low to mid 90s fastball to set up his secondary pitches. Ive read that he has a good change, but not sure about the rest of his stuff. My third choice would be Hudson. Although he put up terrific numbers, I'm not sure his upside matches that of Drabek or Hellickson. What are your thoughts?
Also, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

As of now
I really like Dan Hudson a lot … but I think he’s third to both of these guys. I’d lean Hellickson. I’m impressed with what he’s done at each level, and he has good enough stuff. He might not have Drabek level stuff, but I feel much more comfortable in thinking that Hellickson will be a quality major league starter.
Tough Call
That isn’t helping much is it huh but, it is a tribute to your tough question. I voted Drabek because I like his stuff better – specifically, what I have seen of his fastball and heard of that hook.
Hudson, is getting somewhat of a bad rap round here as somewhat of a soft-tosser or something but over at MLB.com there it is – a clip of him hitting 94 in the bigs. He has a real feel for changing speeds and deception too.
The one for me that Id like to see more of is Hellickson – no clips of him last season that I have seen and he really took off. I consider him and Hudson to be somewhat similar in stuff and ability. Anybody think Im way off there.
Id say again, they are very close. I have a draft coming up myself and was looking at the same 3 guys as well. I will say that based on everything Hudson seems to be the most underrated right now and he was very good in 2008 ass well so it wasn’t a one year thing. His loopy arm motion reminds me of Andy Sonnanstine as well, and I can’t decide if that is a good thing or not – probably bad at this point.
tbh
I can see a valid case for Hudson. As casejud notes, he’s being a tad underrated. I think his stuff is close/similar to Hellickson. JH’s track record is too good for me, though.
I think...
it’s a tie between Hellickson and Drabek. Drabek has the slight edge in stuff, but Hellickson is a little closer. Both are a pretty good distance ahead of Hudson in my opinion.
Drabek
I don’t even need to explain my love for him.
Go read the Blue Jays top 20 if you need to know.
Hey guys, I run a music blog. alternative, powerpop, punk, electronica, screamo, etc etc, check it out. http://muzikdizcovery.blogspot.com/ artist interviews and many other stuff. free cookies! (not really, but still) :D
I went with Hellickson just slightly ahead of Drabek
Drabek has a higher ceiling most likely, however Hellickson has dominated everywhere he has pitched and I find it hard to believe he will be any worse than a 3/4 in the majors and that is a pretty high floor.
