Last year's rookies top coummunity prospects for future performance #21
Last year when we did this poll, the 20th spot went to Justin Masterson. This year, it goes to Nolan Reimold with 24% over Andrew Bailey with 17%. I'll take Reimold over Masterson any day. Here is where we are so far:
1. Matt Wieters, C Baltimore
2. Tommy Hanson, P Atlanta
3. Andrew McCutchen, of Pittsburgh
4. Brett Anderson P Oakland
5 Gordon Beckham, 3b CHW
6. Rick Porcello, P Detroit.
7.Elvis Andrus, SS Texas
8. Colby Rasmus, of St. Louis
9. David Price, P Tampa Bay
10. Travis Snider, of Toronto
11. Dexter Fowler, of Colorado
12. Chris Tillman, p Baltimore
13t. Matt Latos, p San Diego
13t Derek Holland, p Texas
15. Cameron Maybin, of Florida
16t Chris Coghlan, of Florida
16t Trevor Cahill, P Oakland
18 Matt Laporta of/1b Cleveland
19 Kyle Blanks, of San Diego
20 Nolan Reimold, of Baltimore
Marc Rzepcynski draws less than 5% of the vote and is temporarily dropped. Gio Gonzalez only draws 1% of the vote and as a result is permanently dropped from this poll. This round the minimum to avoid being permanently dropped increases to 3%.
Jeff Neimann and Julio Borbon are returned for another chance this round, Garret Jones and Clayton Richard get a first shot.
temporarily dropped from the poll (percentage and round in parens) Luis Valbuena 0% (16), Gerardo Parra 0% (16), Tommy Hunter 2% (18), Brad Bergesen 1% (18), Casey McGehee 1% (18), Randy Wells 0% (18). Everth Cabrera 3% (19), Cliiff Pennington 1% (19), Marc Rzepcynski 3% (20)
permanently dropped from the poll (percentage and round in parens) Gio Gonzalez, 1% (20)
With just four rounds left after this one, I am listing players who are under consideration to be added for the first time in these last few rounds. Among hitters I am thinking of Brett Gardner, and Taylor Teagarden. Among starting pitchers I am thinking of David Hernandez, and Brian Duensing. Among relievers I am thinking of Sipp, Mijares, Medlen, and Gregerson, but have been in a holding pattern these last few rounds on adding a reliever until we pick Bailey or Bard, both of whom I expect would rank far ahead of any of these four. I am going to be able to get to most, but probably not all of these guys in the next four rounds so if you like one of these guys, or someone not on this list and want them to be added, please mention them below.

I went with Borbon
It’s nice to see three Orioles players on this list.
Check out my website, it has scouting reports for all the Orioles' top prospects and is updated daily. www.oriolesprospects.com

I'll go Stubbs here and Borbon next.

What a great class of rookies
when Niemann is presumably #30 on this list, who pitched a ton of innings at a ~4.1 FIP, I can’t wait to see all of these guys for the next 15 years.

I...
was going to post something similar a few threads ago. We don’t often look at the rookie class as a group like this, so I don’t have a good sense of how it stacks up to recent years, but I see about 3-5 guys on this list who I wouldn’t be surprised to see end up in the Hall of Fame, and 3-5 others who I think have a decent shot at that kind of career. Not to mention, the guy who just got slotted in at #20 just posted an .831 OPS in 2/3rds of a season, and I can’t even really argue that he’s placed too low.
2009 was just a great, great year for young talent.
well we can at least compare to 2008

Last year’s top end was quite good, but there is no comparison between this year’s 11-20 and last year’s, especially between 16-20, and I don’t think that this is simply hindsight.
clayton richard will be a great pitcher
will be a great pitcher next year… i garantee it… pitching in the NL west and more experience pitching and i think he will be very good for the next 5 years for the padres
Baltimore
I was thinking of doing a poll after this wraps up asking what team had the best rookie class last year. Although I could argue for a few other teams including the Rangers and A’s, the Orioles have to be right in the middle of that conversation. For a team that was for many years built around aging veterans that is certainly a nice change.
er ... Niemann
I don’t really want to vote Niemann. I don’t see any of the starting arms being all that different from each other. I’d also take a mid-rotation arm over a closer for the most part. The only bat would be Stubbs, and maybe I should go that route, but I just can’t. So, picking a starter, and I went with Niemann over the rest not because I think that Niemann will post the best season, but rather, I think he might be a guy who has a longer career than some of them.
Tbh, don’t like the vote, and I don’t see any chance he wins. I’m guessing it’s Bailey or Stubbs that wins.
Gamel
You know, he’s still a prospect.
I guess if you are going with Rookie eligibility then it’s fine, service time he’s over the limit I think.
I voted Stubbs though.
Hey guys, I run a music blog. alternative, powerpop, punk, electronica, screamo, etc etc, check it out. http://muzikdizcovery.blogspot.com/ artist interviews and many other stuff. free cookies! (not really, but still) :D
Gamel
exactly 130 at bats puts him one short of qualifying that way, but 65 straight day on the roster between May 14 and July 19 does it for sure.
