I'm working on the Cardinals now. The next team after the Cardinals will be the Boston Red Sox. Use this thread to discuss the Red Sox system, point out sleepers, etc.

awesome

I found their draft to be very interesting… Head, Jacobs, Volz and Younginer are nice sleepers.

I found it rather underwhelming

Renfroe and Jacobs are definitely interesting, but I wasn’t a big fan of the rest. Volz, Younginer and Alex Wilson are probably relievers and Fuentes was an overdraft. I would have liked it a lot more had they been able to sign Branden Kline.

i didnt think it was good at all

but I thought it to be interesting because of the question marks surrounding most of the picks

Derrik Gibson

I think he’s going to be an excellent leadoff or #2 hitter.

Che-Hsuan Lin

Still a big fan of this plus-defense CF. According to minorleaguesplits, his line, adjusted for park and luck, comes out at .319/.402/.438. Granted, only so far you can go with that. He also got off to a slow start this year, before settling in. Is he a stud? Without adjusting his swing, he won’t generate enough power to be considered a stud, but he’s very good at what he does, and I think he projects well as a potential top of the order hitter.

IIRC his slow start

was due to an injury.

Some are easy,some are not....

Easy ones—-

Kelly
Westmoreland
Tazawa
Kalish
Reddick
Bowden
Pimentel
Lin
Gibson
& Mendez

The Others

the supposedly infallible but now fallible Anderson
the 09 Draft class
Iglesias (will he hit ?)
the Catchers – ie Espo/Lavarnaway/Federowicz & Wagner

& the arms – Mills who jumped up a ways but also
what ceiling on Doubront/Fife/Britton & Williamson

Sleepers -- Manny Rivera/Jose Vinicio/Pete Hissey/Lin….

I’ve been on Lavarnaway for a little while now, definitely looking forward to seeing him against more advanced pitching. Also would love to get a detailed report of his D from somewhere but nobody ever has him on their top lists. :D

Sleeper

Ryan Westmoreland strikes me as a sleeper nobody’s talking about. Could be solid #4 outfielder…. Michael Bourn upside with less speed.

At this point, I think Westmoreland is more than just a sleeper.

Ryan Westmoreland

He’s a sleeper that nobody’s talking about. I think he could be a decent #4 outfielder with an upside of Michael Bourn with less speed.

Westmoreland

What do you suppose his grade is? I’m guessing B+. John liked him as a B last year and I would say he improved upon that

by gpellet41 on Dec 10, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions

A- is a pretty special grade.

Westmoreland might deserve one next year, but certainly doesn’t right now.

Lars Anderson

While he went down this year(I think injury had more to do with it than most people are giving credit to), I still see him making it as a James Loney type 1B, a consistent .280/15/80 hitter.

Daniel Nava

In his case, performance overshadows age-relative-to-league, in my opinion.

Add Max Ramirez to it

I still like his bat alot and playing in Fenway should really help too

I have one question

Where the heck is Anthony Rizzo? He should be in the Top10, no doubt!
I wrote an extensive post about Lin on OTM, you should check it.

Renfroe vs Middlebrooks

I’d like to see these guys compared and contrasted. On the surface they seem very much alike, but I’m curious to see if anyone thinks Refroe can sidestep the problems WMB is having…

what does Jose Iglesias get?

a C+ or B- or what?

I’d be surprised if he gets a B from Sickles while Miguel Jean already got a C+

Any factual evidence at all towards this rumor?

Carlos Carrasco, Alex White along with Tanner Scheppers to the Twins
Glen Perkins and Beau Mills to the Rangers
Francisco Liriano and the rights to Boof Bonser + a PTBL to the Indians

(will Smoak and Feliz go to Fla. for Josh Johnson?)

I have to prop up Ryan Lavarnway as a sleeper

He came out of college with good scouting reports about his offensive potential. He probably will not stick at catcher due to his size, but has sufficient upside with his bat to make a run at the majors in a corner OF spot or 1B. He had an above average arm coming out of the draft and the Red Sox would not have kept him at the plate if they did not think he had a chance to stick, but his size and foibles likely will get in the way of that.
