Four-Star Prospects
1. Mike Montgomery, LHP
2. Aaron Crow, RHP
3. Mike Moustakas, 3B
4. Wil Myers, C
5. Tim Melville, RHP
Three-Star Prospects
6. Danny Duffy, LHP
7. Jeff Bianchi, SS
8. Eric Hosmer1B
9. Chris Dwyer, LHP
10. John Lamb, LHP
Two-Star Prospects
11. David Lough, OF

Four More:
12. Tyler Sample, RHP: This 6-foot-7 power arm has a ceiling that might rank with that of anyone in the system.
13. Derrick Robinson, CF: Scouts still love his tools, especially the 80-grade speed, but 2010 could be a make-or-break year for him.
14. Carlos Rosa, RHP: The strong-armed Dominican has tons of velocity, but it's more than bit straight.
15. Kila Ka'aihue, 1B: The minor-league TTO hero failed to build on his 2008 breakout, and now just seems like a walks machine.

Robinson stands out as too high

Parraz looks like an omission. not in love with him but he did make legitimate improvements this year, even if he was 24.

yeah

i think that is the general sentiment with this system. fairly deep in good prospects, none that really stand out as elite. though you could make a case for montgomery or crow.

Goldstein said he went back and forth, and that he will only be a couple spots behind Casey Crosby (5 star) in the top 100.

The mix of top 10 is accurate - order is arguable

PIcks 11-14 were really surprising to me. D. Robinson, Kila?

Saw on Goldstein’s chat that Johnny G. and Blake Wood were 16-20.

I don’t know about Moustakas over Wil Myers.

Hosmer

was considered the best high school bat of the draft a couple of years ago. If his eyesight gets fixed, he’s a solid four star prospect.

That's why they call them business sox

He needs to continue to get stronger...

and fill out as he is still pretty skinny from the tape I’ve seen on him.

Moustakas has taken a beating this fall

With his performance in the AFL & 2009 and his added weight, 2010 is a really critical year for him. If his performance is strong, much of the criticism will cease. If he struggles, Moustakas will drop as a prospect even more quickly.

Only the Royals could have so many issues with 2 guys who were the #2 overall picks in the draft.

What is it about the Royals that they can take a “sure fire prospect” (see Alex Gordon) and turn them into busts?

Sad.

The thing Moore gets credit for is spending more money on the draft. Yet the guy who opened the vaults refused to spend to get Wieters or Porcello, who are going to return the value of their investments within three years of being drafted. And when he did spend on a top pick, it was on a high school first baseman, which is historically about the riskiest way to spend a top pick (If you remember Jazayerli’s study on the draft, A-Gon and Prince are outliers). If my GM has top five picks and is willing to spend money on the draft, I’d sure like to have the consensus best players.

Do you think that's a GM realizing that they made a mistake on someone within the first year?

Ladnier went fairly quickly after that draft, didn’t he?

let me rephrase

he was PART of the reason Ladnier got fired.

greg schaum mentioned that Ladnier was so sure that Wieters was going to demand 10 million or not sign that they stayed away because they didn’t have the budget for it.

i think DM just wanted a guy he felt more comfortable with in Picollo. simple as that. Ladnier actually got fired after the ’08 draft…after Melville signed, I think (because he had a great relationship with that family).
