How are you gonna have a top 10 Giants list and not include the one guy who absolutely murders the ball (especially defensivly, teehee)? Where is Angel Villalona?

Sorry guys,,,had too…

No Noonan?

That’s not right.

Agreed. I didn’t notice that the first time I looked at this list.

Who's Dan Runzler?

He certainly had some pretty ERAs this year – is he a potential closer?

Baggarly talks him up as one in the scouting report

Even suggesting they might look to move Wilson sooner rather than later to clear room for him. Describes him a lefty with a mid-90s fastball and a hammer curve who made big strides with his control this year. .

by aCone419 on Nov 30, 2009 5:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

big strides with his control

that’s why he shot up 5 levels this year.

Bonds stands alone.

weird

because on the best tools section it says Runzler has the best slider in the organization…but in his write-up it says he throws a curve

by soxkid on Nov 30, 2009 10:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

ba always mixes up the offspeed pitches...

cant tell the difference between a slider and curve..

by matthewmafa on Nov 30, 2009 11:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That writeup

Sound EXACTLY like what Dave Righetti said about Alex Hinshaw.

i agree….if you are in a dynasty league, with expanded rosters, do not sleep on runzler. he has classic power closer body + stuff. i would not be surprised if in the next season or 2 he blows up in a similar fashion to bj ryan when things came together for him in toronto.

No, didn't you hear?

He got a sweet BJ in Toronto while pitching for the Orioles, and suddenly the light came on!

Runzler

The scouting report sounds good, but it would be very hard for me to rank a relief pitcher that high unless if he were truly special. That’s obviously going to depend on the organization, but the Giants probably have an above-average system.

?

They have a marquee prospect in Posey, a very good second prospect in Bumgarner and good depth (well, at least lots of interesting players). Its a pretty good system.

John Manuel disagrees.

My Bucardo is better than yours.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

I think Runzler is too high, personally, and I don’t think Adrianza or Peguero would make my top 10.

It had originally said “Out of baseball” for Villalona before they changed it.

Sosa?

Does Henry Sosa belong on here, even with the injury?

I don’t know, his numbers were pretty mediocre this year and he’s not really that young (24 next year).

No Rafael Rodriguez?

I know he’s really young and hasn’t had a chance to show much, and the system isn’t exactly the Astros’, but I would figure he’d slot in here.

Rodriguez

Big Bird could break out in 2010. He moves really well for such a tall dude.

Wheeler over Neal

I think ranking Wheeler over Neal could easily wind up looking bad. I’ve seen Neal play about seven times this year. His bat is going to be solid in the bigs. Wheeler has a MUCH lower floor than him.

by Adam Foster on Dec 2, 2009 1:36 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Big fan

of Neal…I think he’ll be a well above average bat with a strong outfield arm.

by soxkid on Dec 2, 2009 8:59 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I hope Neal blows up

Like, with dynamite. I hate the Giants.
