Last year's rookies top community prospects for future performance #13
In an extremely close vote, both in the round leading up to the runoff and in the runoff itself, Chris Tillman edges out Derek Holland for the #12 spot among this past year's rookies. Holland goes back into the poll. Assuming we are doing something in the range of 25 spots in this poll, that puts us just about half way. I'll probably give this one a little more time than usual given the holiday though I'll wait to see depending on how quickly votes come in. Here is where we are so far:
1. Matt Wieters, C Baltimore
2. Tommy Hanson, P Atlanta
3. Andrew McCutchen, of Pittsburgh
4. Brett Anderson P Oakland
5 Gordon Beckham, 3b CHW
6. Rick Porcello, P Detroit.
7.Elvis Andrus, SS Texas
8. Colby Rasmus, of St. Louis
9. David Price, P Tampa Bay
10. Travis Sinder, of Toronto
11. Dexter Fowler, of Colorado
12. Chris Tillman, p Baltimore
J.A. Happ and Everth Cabrera had less than 5% of the vote last round and are temporarily dropped from the voting.
temporarily dropped from the poll (percentage and round in parens) Gerardo Parra 0% (8), Jeff Neimann, 1% (9), Luis Valbuena 2% (10), Ricky Romero 4% (11), Nolan Reimold 4% (11), Drew Stubbs 3% (11), Mat Gamel 1% (11), Randy Wells 0% (11); J.A. Happ 1% (12), Everth Cabrera 2% (12)
This round we add back Chris Coghlan, Kyle Blanks, and Matt Laporta and give a first shot to Daniel Bard.
As always, if you you have any suggestions for players to be added to the voting, please list them below.

Holland
I’d probably go Holland, Latos, Coghlan of the folks on the list. Actually, hmm … maybe Maybin ahead of Latos/Coghlan. Not sure. Cam seems to be falling a bit, and while he hasn’t exploded on the scene, the ability is still excellent. Actually, I really like Everth Cabrera and hope he makes it back soon.

I actually voted for Maybin, but cannot argue much with a Holland vote either. I also really like Cabrera. A moderate OBP guy with a great glove and speed to burn has a lot of value at SS. I don’t think he will ever be a star, but he will be an above-average regular for a few years.

Don't understand...
why this Community continually underrates guys like Pedroia and Coghlan. Last season, we couldn’t even get Coghlan into the Top 100 prospects. All he does his rookie year is hit 320 while playing a new position and wins ROY. Those of us who believed in Pedroia couldn’t get him into the Top 60 here when he was eligible. He’s only one of the best 2B in the league with a MVP Trophy under his belt.
Now, I am not saying, nor do I believe that Coghlan is going to be a superstar, but there is something to be said for guys who will be above average regulars in the majors for years to come.

Are you implying that the people selected in this poll already will not be above average regulars?

when you do a runoff...
you really should put both players on the list.

agree wholeheartedly. I actually have Latos ahead of Holland, but based on last poll Holland should be on. This was certainly the case when Rasmus lost to Andrus in the runoff and then won the next spot anyway.

okay
I don’t think that is the best way to do it at the top of a list, as there is no guarantee the person who loses the runoff will win the next spot, I’ve seen it not happen that way many times. But since we now are “officially” on the back half of the list I think that would make sense going forward if we need to have another runoff, as it probably will give the right result and will move things along.

same problem as choosing 2-3 from each vote
Obviously as we are seeing here, the majority of those that voted for Tilman in last round don’t rank Holland as the next prospect…which is why it looks to be heading for another runoff. Not to mention all the people who voted for someone other than the 2 in the run off that got forced to choose between only those 2 during the run off.

I've been voting Holland since #10
He’s a lefty with great stuff and good control. His HR rate should be about average, as his HR/FB ratios were way out of wack last year… and his K/BB numbers were excellent, especially for a guy who spent most of the previous season at low A.

Bailey
How bad do you think he is going to be going forward? I mean he arguably has the highest floor of anyone on this entire list. That has to count for something, never mind the fact that he has top closer upside.

No, his floor is that he is a typical volatile reliever and doesn’t put up another season matching his 2009.
