Last year's rookies, top community prospects for future performance #10

With David Price's clear cut win this past round with 37% of the vote, as #2 on lat year's community prospect list he finally joins last year's #1 Matt Wieters.  Given Price's total and that the rest of the guys remaining on the list were tightly bunced between 8% and 14% it might be said that Price represents the last player in a tier. Anyway, here is where we are so far:

1. Matt Wieters, C Baltimore

2. Tommy Hanson, P Atlanta

3. Andrew McCutchen, of Pittsburgh

4. Brett Anderson P Oakland

5 Gordon Beckham, 3b CHW

6. Rick Porcello, P Detroit.

7.Elvis Andrus, SS Texas

8. Colby Rasmus, of St. Louis

9. David Price, P Tampa Bay

Jeff Neimann got less than 5% last round and is being temporarily dropped from the voting.  Although Laporta also got less than 5% if he had been on the list from the beginning instead of being substituted in half way through he might well have gotten 5% so I am going to leave him on the list for now.

temporarily dropped from the poll (percentage and round in parens) Ricky Romero 0% (5), Mat Gamel 1% (6), Drew Stubbs 2% (7), Nolan Reimold 2% (7), Trevor Cahill 3% (8), Andrew Bailey 3% (8), Kyle Blanks 1% (8),  Gerardo Parra 0% (8), Jeff Neimann, 1% (9)

This round we add back Cameron Maybin and add Luis Valbuena and J. A Happ for the first time.

I'm probably going to add back several players from the list of players who have been temporarily dropped next round.  As there are about 6 I could justify adding back based on their prior vote if you have any preferences either from that list or for the first time please list them below.

Go Derek Holland...

I think when both of their careers are over Holland will have shown to be the much better pitcher of him and David Price. I see Price having a few good years starting, then losing some control and moving to the back end of the bullpen where he will be a very good closer. I see Holland as the ace of the Texas Rangers pitching staff for almost his whole career. His stuff is just as good Price’s and Holland has better command.

I think it has to be Latos or Holland

And how the mighty have fallen. David Price was fighting with Matt Wieters for top prospect status and we were talking about him becoming one of the best aces in the game. I think some of the shine might be off but it might be a bit early to write him off as 9th best in this post rookie class.

I went Cam Maybin

lest you all have forgotten his enormous upside.

Maybin is a better fielder as of now, more powerful and a year younger

I think both will be good to great but I’m taking Maybin for now.

I've always said this, and I will continue to do so

Maybin strikes out way to much, and hasn’t walked at the pro level, and he hits far to many GB.

He won’t ever post high enough OBA numbers.

I just got on twitter.Follow me at http://twitter.com/JDSussman
I'll be trying to post lines and analysis as much as possible.

If by "pro" you mean MLB, you're taking a sample of less than 300 skewed PA before he hits his 23rd birthday.

He’s been striking out less and his OBA is as high as it ever has been in AAA, and he held his own in a callup. He will probably learn to hit the ball in the air and sharpen his K/BB rate as he gets older, assuming a player ever improves after his 23rd birthday.
