Community Prospect List - Dodgers

Another interesting system. Lots of guys you could put in. 130 AB, 50 IP.

1. Withrow

2. Ethan Martin

3. Trayvon Robinson

4. Lindblom

5. Gordon

I had lots of difficulty with this list. Withrow is a clear #1 to me, and Martin is looking good other than control. He will get that in time. Robinson is a toolsy outfielder who put it together this year, and all around looks great. 4/5 are the two I had issues with. Lindblom looks really good so far, and originally I had Aaron Miller at 5. I'm not a fan of Gordon or Lambo. Gordon doesn't seem like anything special to me.  His stats weren't great other than speed, which additionally helps with average. My question is, if you don't think Gillies is top 20 in Mariners, how is Gordon a top prospect here? Gillies has performed as well in a higher level.

Other names to consider are Delmonico, Eovaldi (who I also like), and Paul.

Where does DeJesus go?

gilles and gordon comparison

seems odd, tbh. positional advantage for gordon really makes a huge difference when judging their prospect status, imo.

In general, I find the system to be a bit overhyped at the top. I think Gordon and Withrow are both a bit overhyped. Overall, decent depth for the system, and I think they’ll bounce back in a year or two. I’ll go

1. Chris Withrow – I like him, but I think he’s a tad overhyped right now. By next year, he may well meet that hype.

2. Ethan Martin – I was tempted to put him 1, as I think he has a higher ceiling. I wouldn’t be surprised if Martin passes Withrow in perception/stature next season.

3. Dee Gordon – I think he’s a tad overhyped as well, but he’s an intriguing shortstop prospect.

4. Ivan DeJesus – I don’t like the other guys enough to make the move yet, and he was a very intriguing shortstop prospect last year.

5. Aaron Miller – Has Lambo fallen this far? Probably not, but I really liked Miller coming out and I’ll give him the nod.

CF Isn't That Far Off

From SS.

It was more of the skill set. Gillies probably has more potential in the bat due to his size.

And I really don’t know how Withrow is overrated. If anything he was underrated. he missed basically two years due to injuries, and was only 20 in A+ ball. He was unlucky as well.

it isn't that far off

but i think, for me, it’s enough to say, okay, that type of offense on a solid shortstop prospect – very intriguing. On a CF, interesting.

That said, as noted, I do think Gordon is a bit overhyped.

As for Withrow, I didn’t say he was overrated. I rated him first in this. I think he’s getting a tad overhyped a bit, though. I understand the intrigue and certainly numbers aren’t everything for minor leaguers. I definitely get the raw upside. I’m not saying he doesn’t have the ability – I’m just saying I think he has a ways to go. His neutralized FIP at IE this year was in the 4.7’s and his neutralized FIP’s in Chatt was in the 4.5’s (I’m too lazy to calculate xFIP’s right now and don’t know any site that carries them off the top for minor leaguers, though it’s late and Friday.) A 10.84 K rate and 4.64 BB rate in IE is nice … but nothing that really makes me go wow just yet, and his K/BB rates in Chatt don’t make me go wow just yet either

Again, not saying he doesn’t have ability, or that he won’t reach the potential. Just saying that I think the hype is outpacing the ability a bit right now, but that’s me.

its his first year pitching

plus about his walk rate… he has great control vs RHB but he cant throw a strike to LHB to save his life,

withrow gets talked up here

so maybe my perception of hype is tinted by what is being discussed here.

by toonsterwu on Oct 17, 2009 11:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, it's a little nuts

He’s an interesting prospect with upside, guy with good raw stuff who got promoted aggressively and did okay in a small sample size. But he’s still a 20 year old with iffy command and without many innings to his name. There’s really no harm in being somewhat conservative on this one.

Yeah, i think it's getting to the point

where he’s so underrated that he’s beginning to be overrated.

Who would you rather have Cubs SS prospect Hak-Ju Lee or Dodgers SS Dee Gordon? and why?

OOOPS

Thanks for catching me…Please put Martin at # 2 and drop Lambo off

by NYSOX on Oct 17, 2009 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Give me the almighty Hak-Ju

He’s a better hitter, while being 2.5 years younger.

I think both guys are quality SS, who profile to stay there long-term.

Granted, Gordon has such limited experience playing the game, but I also like Hak-Ju’s power potential over that of Gordon.

Lee has

more potential to be a more well-rounded offensive player. Also, the esteemed AzPhil has also called Lee the fastest person in the Cubs system (which is rather stunning, as the Cubs have the insanely fast Tony Campana). Short of it is, I think Lee can potentially do what Gordon can do (be an excellent top of the order hitter), and he can potentially do more.

That said, with Castro ahead of Lee, Lee may have to move to another spot, perhaps CF.

I'd go...

Withrow
Martin
gordon
Lambo
Miller

Also, I would rather have Hak-Ju Lee. Derek Jeter comps go a long way towards my decision.

Anyone think Kyle Russell...

could turn into a Ryan Ludwick type player? I like him a lot, but didn’t want to include him in my top 5.

by joegonzo on Oct 17, 2009 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he has to cut down on the K's one way or another

i mean, he struck out a reynolds-esque pace as a 23-yo in low A. there’s some things to like with him, but…seems like a big time long shot to me.

No mention of Scott Van Slyke? I only put his name out there because there are a lot of Top 10s and 15s. Obviously not Top 5 material at this point. Is he being overlooked here? Or, Is the Dodgers system simply that deep?

by StickRat on Oct 18, 2009 9:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

this year

2009 counted as his age 22 season. He wasn’t too old for the league.

by npurcell on Oct 19, 2009 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

but

he still wasn’t that good. van slyke, on a tools basis, is still a marginal prospect. Not even sure if he’d come in my top 20.
