i’m mildly surprised at what seems like a very solid lead for turner over avila (although they did tie on first place votes). I know Turner has immense upside, perhaps higher than Crosby (Debatable) but catchers with Avila’s potential are rare, and he’s much further along.
I wonder if the bottom five in the White Sox list seem a bit underrated based on the voting. I actually like a guy like Ely. Granted, not saying any of them should be in the top5, but the voting numbers stood out.
I am a bit surprised that Bromberg was definitively left off of the top 5. I think the Twins system is solid, but it isn’t that great right now, and he’s an intriguing arm that will be ascending to AA.
A bit surprised with Knapp over Hagadone by 8 points, which isn’t really that much I guess.

there may as well be a chasm between whomever you think is #5 in the white sox system and #6
it gets real bad, real quick.

I think Rondon, Chisenhall, Carrasco, Weglarz and Santana are easily and comfortably the top 5. Not sure what Hagadone or Knapp do to get a vote over either, personally.
Carlos Carrasco is the most underrated prospect in the minors, easily. What do people not like about him?

i think carrasco might be a case of
overexposure (and overhype). He’s still a solid mid-rotation type arm, with borderline 2 potential, but earlier in the career, some folks got to thinking that he’d be a top level arm, which he never developed into.

I agree that Carrasco is most likely to settle into a middle of the rotation role, but I believe he has #1 potential. He’s still very young at only 22 and posted good FIPs with the AAA Phillies (4.01 in 20 starts) and AAA Indians (2.92 in 6 starts). Although he’s rough around the edges, he still boasts three possible plus pitches (fastball, change and curveball). He was certainly rocky in his 22.1 IP September debut in the MLB, but Roy Halladay, Johan Santana and Chris Carpenter were all rocked before they settled down into elite pitchers.

This.
Brett Anderson is the Truth. Brett Anderson is divine presence. Brett Anderson is eternal life. Brett Anderson is within you. Brett Anderson is here. Brett Anderson is Now.

I thought the same thing going into the year...
But, I think mentally, Carrasco may not have what it takes to be reliable. He’s so inconsistent from start to start and pitch to pitch that I’m not sure if he can put it all together. Pure stuff wise, Carrasco continues to be tantalizing. But, if you take into account the mental aspect – both in gameplan and supposed tentativeness on the mound, I’m worried.
I think he’s more likely to settle in as an inconsistent #3 starter. Which is good, but his stuff could warrant better.

he sorta reminds me of Javy Vazquez in some respects

Hadn’t thought of that…. You’re right, Javy does seem like a good comp. I’d imagine the Indians would be happy if Carrasco just became Javy-like. Consistent and decent (with flashes of brillance).
