Better MLB career Montero or Heyward

Both of these kids are going to be 20 years old either in AAA or the majors though I see Montero going to AA for 200 AB's but both these kids could be monsters in the majors.  Who hits for a higher average and who has more power in the end.  Also while Montero is likely to be a DH and then maybe a 1st baseman when Tex is 35 or better.  However, if Montero can play passive defense at catcher he could be a multiple time starter at catcher.  Heyward I think is going to be in AAA for April and May and then get called up like Ryan Braun and Jay Bruce did.  What do you project out of these two kids.

all in Heyward has a better career

Of course most of that is because Montero will be a DH (I’m sorry, he’s just not sticking at catcher) and Heyward is supposed to be a very good defender in right. I don’t think the offense is going to be all that different from the two. Montero will probably have more power but neither team will be unhappy with their player.

mmm

i think that as of right now it’s reasonable to assume that montero is not a long term catcher, and probably not going to be more than possible a few games a year catcher for a few years, if even. so my views are based purely on their offensive numbers.

for better career i’d pick heyward in heartbeat (though i think heyward is a higher injury risk), assuming he plays at least 130-140 games a year. reason is i think heyward will have a longer career, as he is a better athlete than montero.

i think a better question would be who will be better right off the bat (first 2 years in majors), and who will be better at their prime.

better for first 2 years i’ll pick montero. better in their prime is a toss up.

Injury risk?

Has Heyward suffered long term injuries? I thought Montero was more injury prone. I could be wrong, but I was wondering if you could please elaborate?

Heyward’s missed quite a few games over the last 2 seasons with a lot of minor injuries (and i think this trend will continue in the majors). Montero on the other hand I believe is a long-term DH, and though DH they tend to be worser athletes, the fact that he won’t have to play any defense should lessen the opportunities he has to being injured. now if Montero was to be a catcher than I would reverse my stance and think Montero is a higher injury risk.

Heyward, easily

Montero’s bat looks special, but he’ll either be a defensive liability in LF or a DH. Heyward doesn’t have that problem, and he’s just as good offensively.

My take

Montero has a better bat but Heyward is very close to Montero’s bat but can play the field. ON my team i would want Heyward but at the plate I would want Montero
