Community Prospect List - White Sox
Another weak system. I've loved the participation in the first three systems of this division. About 20 lists for each team so far. Make this one big as well. 130 AB, 50 IP limits as usual.
3. Jared Mitchell
4. Danks
5. CJ Retherford
Other names are Phegley, Marrero, Vicieco, Morel, Rodriguez, Santeliz.

having published this:
http://www.southsidesox.com/2009/10/9/1056955/the-official-sss-top-ten-white-sox
on the sbnation sister site, i’m kind of locked into my list. if anyone wants further analysis and five more names, see the link.
Dayan Viciedo being pretty much a guaranteed DH really hurts his standing IMO
Especially since he hasn’t really hit yet. If he’s actually a top 5 guy, that says more about how terrible the system is than anything.

1. Flowers – Much as I love Hudson, Flowers upside as a potential impact catcher seems better than Hudson’s, who I think is more of a 2 starter if everything goes perfect.
2. Hudson – Love him. Think he’s a bit underhyped.
3. Mitchell
4. Viciedo
5. Danks
Whoa … this system thinned out much more than I thought.
I've heard mixed things on Flowers' defense (mostly from clueless Chicago media types)
Will he stick at catcher for long, or is he going to end up at first after a year or two?

over on SSS, after seeing him on defense in september
we think he is ready for full time catcher. Below average defense, above average bat equals plus catcher

ben badler at baseball america has said the defense was much improved and the defensive questions from scouts appear to be gone.
only reputable source i’ve heard opine but, having watched him in his september call-up, he looks a hell of a lot better than he did last year. i’d say he’ll stick for awhile, assuming the injury issues are gone.
Ok, cool.
He’s a massive dude, but in the little I saw him in September (live in Chicago, but not a Sox fan so I only catch about half the games) he seemed athletic enough to be competent, at least.

Hudson - I've heard if he can develop a cutter, he may be a number one, but he's fine where he is
Danks – dissapointing second half due to injuries. Best case scenario: corner outfielder if he fills out his frame
Flowers – (his bat actually kinda dissapointed me in September, but again it was only September)
Mitchell – still needs plenty of time to develop tools, future leadoff center fielder
Viciedo – future first baseman, give him some more time
aaaaaaaaaaand
Jef-
Jeffer-
Jeffery Mar-
Ok not him
Really?
I dunno, I see four good players there but I wouldn’t rank Viciedo higher than a C prospect. Maybe a C+, but his first stint in the US was bad AND he’s a DH (I know, he’s probably only 20). If your #5 guy is a C, it’s a pretty bad system even if 1-4 are good prospects (and they are, I think).

Trayce Thompson
No mention of him anywhere? Granted, his pro debut was pretty discouraging, but he’s only 18 years old, loaded with tools and has never focused solely on baseball as he was a multiple sport star in high school. He has garned Mike Satanton comps in the past.
“Several scouts compare Trayce Thompson with Marlins prospect Mike Stanton and, while their builds are similar, Thompson is not yet in Stanton’s league as a prospect.
At bat, Thompson flashes fascinating bat speed, and his power potential is terrific.
To reach his potential, he’ll need to make some mechanical adjustments. Thompson doesn’t load as much as he rocks slightly pre swing; his top hand grip is too far back into his palm; he needs to keep his front side and front foot closed longer; and he has a tendency to drift his hands away from his body instead of keeping them on an inside path.
In the field, Thompson possesses acceptable speed for a big man; however, he is not a particularly aggressive outfielder. A corner outfield prospect who plays CF in high school, Thompson does not charge balls well and, for some reason, often defers to his corner mates on drives in the gaps that he should take the initiative on. Thompson’s arm is acceptable but he is timid with his throws and doesn’t go after runners who attempt to advance.
Nonetheless, Thompson is the type of prospect that tantalizes scouts. He will obviously require substantial development in the minors, but Thompson’s blend of a loose, projectable, athletic frame and enticing tools—driving power in particular—may make him too alluring to pass up in the draft.”
just to add
All that isn’t to say that Thompson is Stanton… far from it as of now… but someone with Thompson’s immense potential should at least be an honorable mention. This system, while not bad, isn’t exactly elite either.
Goldstein even argued “Trayce Thompson’s upside surpasses that of even Mitchell.”
list
1. Flowers – upside of average defensive catcher and plus offensive catcher = right-handed Brian McCann.
2. Hudson – Starts off in bullpen, should transition to starter when Freddy Garcia goes down
3. Mitchell – leadoff hitter mentality, eye and speed, + CF defense. Might develop power. Needs reps.
4. Danks- Did wrist injury tank his 2nd half? Back to AA to find out.
5.Viciedo – Still only 20 y.o. Some 2nd half improvement. Needs to step it up
Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of.
listy
1. Flowers – I value catchers higher than pitcher’s generally speaking.
2. Hudson – jumps to 1st if/when he learns a cutter, assuming it’s a useful pitch for him as has been the case with other White Sox’ pitchers
3. Danks – I think his drop in performance was primarily due to injury not due to regression to any sort of mean
4. Mitchell – Playing only baseball hopefully will help since he is still pretty raw
5. Viciedo – I liked the upward trend of his stats during the season before crapping the bed at the end. Hopefully that was due to fatigue and hopefully he learns some strike zone judgement
