Predicing the BA top 20

Almost all of the top 10's have been released (except San Diego and Los Angeles, but neither of those teams have any prospects that will sniff the top 20).

 Judging by:

the team top 10's http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/organization-top-10-prospects/2009/

and the ask BA were Callis ranked his NL top 10 http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/ask-ba/2009/267429.html and AL top 10 http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/ask-ba/2008/267360.html

and the BA mideason to 25 http://www.minorleagueball.com/2008/7/11/569816/baseball-america-midseason

What do you think the top BA top 20 will look like?

 My Guess:

1. Price

2. Weiters

3. Bumgarner

4. Alvarez

5. Rasmus

6. Brett Anderson

7. Cahill

8. Snider

9. Maybin

10. Feliz

11. Posey

12. Hanson

13. Heyward

14. Tillman

15. Fowler

16. McCutchen

17. Porcello

18. Moustakas

19. Lars Anderson

20. Alderson

Thought that would be easier, but after two it could go many ways.  Callis' top 10's goes a bit out of order from the team top 10s.  The midseason top 25 is what really made it confusing.  Some very big jumps.  LaPorta was at 7, but now ranks behind Santana?  I don't see Sanatan as a top 20 prospect, so where does that put LaPorta?  Callis also has Alvarez as his #3 overall prospect?  Does he really deserve to be this high?

Did I miss anybody?  Trying to predict that really messed with my head more than I had thought.

to guess

you should just look at the editor’s picks for their top 50s and make some kind of ranking based on that collective, i mean obviously that is almost exact science, but since you are trying to base it all off BA facts anyway, just use the actual blueprint

Don’t have the editors top 50s yet. Did they release that info yet?

It doesn't...

matter if you see LaPorta as a top 20 guy as long as they do.

I think LaPorta should be around 8-12 on my list

but he will be behind Santana on the BA list. Callis didn’t have either on his AL top 10. Either Santana made a HUGE jump, or LaPorta dropped a good bit since midseason.

wallace?

he may not be in their top 20 (although i think he should) but he will be flying up prospect rankings soon. trade for him now when you still can.

A couple guys are missing

Based on the free info Callis has released, I gotta believe both Hosmer and Morrison make the overall top 20.

Not sure Posey ranks quite that high either.

Brian Matusz

I’d put Brian Matusz at 20 over Tim Alderson.

maybe close

Heyward should be higher. LaPorta should crack the top 20. Posey might make the cut but it will be close. Hosmer might be on the cut line too.

Plus I think Brett Anderson is over rated.

other way around for me

i think cahill is overrated and anderson is much better

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

I would have Heyward higher

but he will be ranked behind Hanson, so Hanson would have to go up too. I would have thought LaPorta would be a lock for the top 20 (maybe even the top 10), but he he will be lower than Santana and I don’t see Santana in the top 20.

Callis...

is only one of 3-4 people whose rankings get factored into BA’s top-100. Manual and Lingo both submit their lists as well. In recent years, Chris Kline’s did, too. I don’t know if it’ll just be the top 3 this year, or if they’ll promote another staff writer to the rankings process. In any case, I’d be pretty shocked if Weiters doesn’t end up #1 when all’s said and done.

To clarify...

Chris Kline got hired away by the Pirates, so I’m not sure if they have another writer on staff who’s senior enough to rank the top-100 with BA’s top-3 guys.
