Who are your top 5 Pitching Duos?
In an orginazation? with a decent trio as a backup option included...
Obviously some easy to see top dogs are Texas (Feliz, Holland) S.F. (Alderson, Bumgarner) and Oakland (Cahill, Anderson) but are there any others out there that push one of these out of your top 5 ....maybe K.C. with Daniel Cortes, and Carlos Rosa? or what about Baltimore with Chris Tillman and Brian Mutuz?
Tampa Bay*
1. Wade Davis 2. Jeremy Hellickson -Jacob McGee
Texas**
1. Neftali Feliz 2. Derreck Holland -Michael Main
San Francisco***
1. Madison Bumgarner 2. Tim Alderson - Henry Sosa
Oakland****
1. Trevor Cahill 2. Brett Anderson - Vin Mazzaro
Baltimore*****
1. Brian Matuz 2. Chris Tillman - Jake Arrieta
just missing: Atlanta with Tommy Hanson, Cole Rorburgh and Motte or Locke

Any list of TB prospects has to include Price right now. Still hasn’t reached the requirements to declare him not a prospect right now
Is it Spring Training Yet?
Yeah, because of what Price did last season
In the major Leagues I kind of already exclude him…
If you count Price in, instead of one of McGee/ Hellickson than I definitely think the Rays are #1.
w/o Price than I think they still posses a top 5 duo but not #1

I'll just be a fanboy for a moment
I’m not saying the Royals should necessarily be in that top 5, but they can make a case with either:
1. Dan Cortes, 2. Carlos Rosa
or
1. Dan Cortes, 2. Danny Duffy
or
1. Dan Cortes, 2. Tim Melville
(depending on which second pitching prospect you like best out of the Royals system)
Clearly the Royals would do better if the question were who are the top 5 pitching trios, quartets or quintets. I feel pretty good about Cortes-Rosa-Duffy-Melville-Montgomery.

Not that those guys aren't good
but they are not as good as any of the pitching duos listed above.

a homer?
if he were such a homer he wouldn’t have excluded daniel gutierrez, the royals’ sp who might be better than all of those guys he mentioned :-)

Daniel Gutierrez, hmm interesting….

??
How does Price only bump that duo up one spot??? Is Price only a little bit better than Hellickson? i think not!
Im not a big fan of Davis
Tillman is a little below Price in my book – yet both have Ace upside. Matusz is a significantly better prospect than Wade Davis IMO… Im quite high on Matusz.
Basically the difference between Price and Tillman isnt as big as the difference between Matusz and Wade Davis. Before, with Hellickson on there there was quite a gap… and I really like Hellickson. I see him as almost interchangeable with Davis, frankly.
I find the weakest pitcher out of these by far to be Alderson, so that drags down the Giants… even though I like Bumgarner more than Tillman, for instance.
Do you like Hellickson more than Davis?
Because apparently you think Hellickson is almost as good as Price, which would explain the minor jump. If so, where would you rank Price-Hellickson?

You must have misread that
I think Hellickson and Davis are pretty similar. I think Davis and Hellickson are two of the weakest second part of the duos on this list.
Those are all great lists
But you have to include Price into the Ray’s rotation. Fans really can go wrong choosing which system they like better
Have to go:
1) San Frans
2) Texas
3) A’s
4) O’s
5) TB
Is it Spring Training Yet?
Prediction
by the end of the year we’re talking about Martin Perez and Neil Ramirez as another TX duo.

Main
Main is the guy. I expect to see him at the top of prospect lists next season.
and I like Omar Poveda quite a bit as well if were talking about guys flying under the radar.
Poveda
there is some question about how his stuff will play at higher levels, but he has certainly performed pretty well. Main will definitely get more buzz this year, and I expect Boscan and Wieland to as well in addition to Ramirez. Ramirez is said to have top of the rotation stuff and Ryan seemed impressed by Wieland.

Prediction
by the end of the year we’ll be talking about Arnold Leon and Michel Inoa as another A’s duo

I like Arnold Leon, but isnt’ he future closer material?

Just saw a Forster interview
they see him as a starter, at least for now.

I'd rather have a thread about Best 5 Man Prospect Rotation than another Duo thread.

My 5
1. Price/Davis – Price could have made the list with about 3 different Tampa pitchers
2. Bumgarner/Alderson – Cain, Lincecum, Bumgarner, Alderson!!!!! Too bad Zito had to go and mess this rotation up!!!!
3. Feliz/Holland – Considered putting Perez in, but Holland is too much closer to the show.
4. Cahill/Anderson – I am much higher on Cahill then Anderson but they both have #2 starter material.
5. Tillman, Matusz – Not as high on TIllman as most, but I think Matusz could be a stud.

#2
You picked the Giants #2, which is pretty high. But you didn’t mention Jonathan Sanchez or Henry Sosa, which IMO makes the Giants #1. By the way, as much as I like David Price, I wouldn’t trade Tim Lincecum for him. I’m sure that surprises everyone! :)
I WOULD trade Madision Bumgarner for him though — or any of the other guys except Tim. In most cases, I would trade two or more of them for David.
Incidentally, when it comes to young pitching duos (not merely prospects), I like the combination of Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley a lot. I might even take them over Lincecum and Cain (although probably not). If Madsion Bumgarner’s arm stays healthy, I like the Lincecum/Bumgarner duo better than any other one.
Let's see them sign him first
How ironic would it be, incidentally, if they picked Crow with their number 10 pick and signed him this time? It would make the whole exercise last year even more pointless than it already was

What about
your next 5 duos? That to me would be more interesting really. No Alderson, Bumgarner, Anderson, Cahill, Price, Feliz, Holland, Tillman or Matusz. I think my next five would be(no particular order):
Hanson/Locke
Hellickson/Davis
Main/Ramirez
West/Tucker
Cortes/Duffy
Other groups under consideration would be Arrieta/Erbe, Gio/Simmons, Bowden/Hagadone(injury concern), Rondon/Huff, Perez/Font, Melville/Montgomery and Barnese/Moore.
