Rank these pitching prospects...
Curious to see what the community thinks... they are all "B" prospects according to John.
David Huff, CLE
Tim Melville, KC
Mike Montgomery, KC
Michael Pineda, SEA
Trevor Reckling, LAA
Hector Rondon, CLE
Junichi Tazawa, BOS
How would you rank these prospects? Why?
If you could, would you rank any of the players below above the former list? If so, why? John has these guys as "B-'s." How would you rank these pitching prospects?
Nick Barnese, TB
Zach Britton, BAL
Shooter Hunt, MIN
Brett Hunter, OAK
Vin Mazzaro, OAK
Brad Mills, TOR
Matt Moore, TB
Martin Perez, TEX
Bill Smith, LAA

Those are John's grades, not mine
just to be clear.
He moved Huff up late, and I dont particularly agree with that… but this wasnt meant as a criticism of John’s grades, by any means. Im just having a hard time separating these guys.

Top 2 are easy
Matt Moore definitely at the top of this list. Tazawa second.

I think Tazawa
is generally overrated. From most things I read he was viewed as a late first/supplemental talent. I’d take Barnese, Moore, and Perez over him.

Is that your only reason for thinking Tazawa is overrated? Being a late first/supplemental pick is a really good thing. Nick Barnese was a 3rd round pick. He went about 50 picks past where a Tazawa talent would go. Matt Moore? 8th round! Perez was an IFA, but I dont think people were claiming he would have been drafted anywhere near as high as Tazawa would have(in large part because of age/lack of refinement). Now, they all have more of a track record than Tazawa so if that could be a legit reason… or I could buy “stuff”(though by all accounts that shouldnt be a reason – Tazawa has plus or plus plus command and at least two MLB quality pitches)… but If him being rated equivalent to a late first/supplemental pick was your only reason for thinking Tazawa was overrated it seems like a poor reason.

I would say I think I like Perez as much
but then I thought Perez deserved a full “B” anyway…

Move up Brad Mills
He gets little respect for the impressive numbers he’s put up.

eh
I don’t particularly like the B list. I think I’d rank it
Rondon, Montgomery, Tazawa, Reckling, Huff, Pineda, Melville
can’t give great reasoning – have Melville last more because I want to see something first, Pineda’s scouting report sounds iffier than his rep, Huff feels like a mid-end of the rotation lefty to me, but honestly, flip the list, and I’m good.
but I’d take Barnese, Moore, Perez over all those guys personally

Disregarding grades...
I would say:
Matt Moore, TB
Martin Perez, TEX
Nick Barnese, TB
Tim Melville, KC
Mike Montgomery, KC
Michael Pineda, SEA
Junichi Tazawa, BOS
Shooter Hunt, MIN
Hector Rondon, CLE
Trevor Reckling, LAA
Vin Mazzaro, OAK
David Huff, CLE
Brad Mills, TOR
(slight gap for me here)
Brett Hunter, OAK
Zach Britton, BAL
Bill Smith, LAA

Actually...
Completely misread Bill Smith. I’m pretty sure he goes by Will Smith. He’s a very nice a sleeper for the Angels. I would probably move him up to the “1st tier” in front of Huff.
