- Big Seaton fan. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he's topping this list a year from now. Very projectable, a low to mid 90's fastball that can get up to 96 and evidently a good curve as well, as BA listed it as best in the system.

The worst system in baseball.

Congrats Astros, you pulled it off!

I agree - Noonan is as valuable as a dead horse… and he too should be beaten by some dude in a top hat who looks like he’s holding his junk.

I'm not so sure it is any worse than the Tigers' or D'backs'

Seriously, if you look at the top six guys, all of them are quality prospects. Who are six quality guys from those two organizations?

Tigers

I’m a big fan of “high end” prospects when evaluating a system. So for me given that the Tigers have Porcello and the Astros don’t, in my opinion, have anyone near that level, makes it a very tough argument to say the Astros have the better system.

I agree that...

Porcello is so much better than anyone the Astros have. But, after Porcello who do they have who is so good? The Astros have a number of quality players at the top of their list.

The same can be said of the Diamondbacks. I think Jarrod Parker is one of the very best pitchers in the minors but, the D’backs have no one behind him – since I am not sold on Gerardo Parra.

Seaton

He may not be Porcello, but BA’s writeup noted that Seaton projects as a #2 with a “shot” to be a front of the rotation starter. Nothing to sneeze at. Long ways to go, though.

A few

Ryan Perry, Casey Crosby, Cale Iorg, Wilken Rameriz, are a few that have a shot at being more than a average mlber. Thatb cab’t be really said for Houston. Casey Crosby is a guy who has some pretty nice upside. It will be interesting to see how he performs this season.

Other than Perry.....

those guys are no better than Houston’s, and Perry is a reliever.

Not so sure about that...

Crosby alone could be a pretty big deal a year from now. No sure things, but there is some possible high end talent their. I’m willing to bet most don’t even know who Casey Crosby is. Kid has a chance to be special.

Seaton at 109

Just think if the Astros made more picks like this one. Great steal.

Bogusevic

4th? Are you serious?

by Take3 on Jan 16, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

It looks like BA’s opinion of Seaton is pretty high. Obviously higher than most. Not sure I understand ranking Norris ahead of him though. His size and arsenal aren’t too intirguing and John suggested he may be better off moving to the bullpen.

They commented that he had trouble with the inside fastball

It's not the results, it's how you look going about those results -- Tim McCarver

That's more a reflection on the depth of the system

than their belief in Bogusevic’s ability I think. Remember, Bogusevic tore up the league in a small sample size so there is going to be all this hype surrounding him until a good sample of playing time produces results against that effect.
